August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

First of all guys...Capital one has no fees on any international purchases, that's why we just got it ...exclusively for this trip. We will cancel it when we get home. Secondly, I don't think I want to pay ATM fees to use European ATM's...Knowing my bank they would be higher than the US ones. Lori - if I remember correctly, your DH is in banking so he makes a good point about waiting. My DH is very anxious to convert the cash now...If I weren't driving when he said it to me, I would have fallen to the floor when he said
$4K in Euro's. I don't know what he thinks he's buying over there, but whatever it is, he'll probably have to ship it home...LOL

We also have a capital one card for the same purpose, though we won't be canceling it when we return. It's gives us 2 points per dollar as a reward and we love to save airline miles!!!!!! Mindy, yes DH works in banking, he's COO of his bank.

Anyone who wants to go to Rome on your own and do an all day walking tour with public transport from a rome guide-- vatican museum, sistine chapel, st peter basilica, roman forum, colosseum, trevi fountain, piazza navona, spanish steps, pantheon.
the price is 300 euro for all of us split evenly. We will go together on the train and meet our private guide -- also time to stop for lunch. (All transport for the day-- 9 euro pp extra, metra, bus, train, etc). Colliseum 12 euro pp extra, and Vatican 15 euro pp (adults). Tour Guide EVERYWHERE. We have two people at the moment (me and Dh). Please let me know via private message!!!!!

I live in Germany and just an FYI most places do not accept american credit cards, they accept EC cards (euro cards) especially grocery stores, small restaurants, etc. EVERYWHERE accepts cash and ATMs offer the best rates, hands down. I would ask your bank to up your atm withdrawal and then make one big withdrawal in downtown barcelona. THat is our plan anways. Travelers checks are "accepted" but I bet people won't actually accept them. Just FYI.

For me the travelers checks are to pay for our private excursions. Our tour operator accepts them.

Really???? Oh I have a capital one!:banana:Thanks for posting that. I will def. use it now.

Ok so here is a question...I shouldn't get charged the international fee on the dcl stuff right? I am going to use my card for my excursions and on board expenses, also maybe pay some in cash. I can still pay in dollars right? Evrything on the boat is US dollars even though we are in Europe...yikes just thought of this.

Mary -

I know that everything onboard is in US$$$ regardless of being in the Euro zone. I also believe that DCL here in the US will process the final charges through, as that's where their accounting is located.

However you get your cash, don't forget to be very careful with it, esp in Barcelona and Rome from what I have read :thumbsup2

An interesting fact that my DH told me was that our port fees are in Euro's - so apparently with the change in the conversion rate, Disney may be refunding the people in the US some $$$.

I find that surprising the DCL didn't just lock them in for the summer. That's awful lot of paperwork for the cruise line to process. Where did he get his info?

I'm sure I could find something to do with that credit :scratchin.......but I'll believe it when I see it. Just add it to my onboard account......

DH said he saw I thread about here on the boards. I don't seem to be able to find it, but then again I don't know how to search these things

he does post but I think he feels wierd because we don't have a lot of guys on our trip board.

Reassure him that although DH doesn't post, he's over my shoulder always asking questions....he'd probably love your DH's view on things!
