August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

Ah. I'm not too worried about that, as I figure we'll be there early (2 days, probably) to try and convert to local time. That and I'll want to start the vacation!!! Going east seems to be easier on me, but who knows how the DD will do...
Kim

In that case best to call DCL and find out the trasfer rate, then let your travel agent spend the time finding you a transfer. Then you can decide. As I said earlier, I can't even remember how RCCL got us to the ship.

yesterday I read on USA Today that disney cruise line will be the first to introduce 3-D movies on their ships. I think this will be done by the end of the year. There will also be special technical effects to go with that. Something else we have to look forward to but don't know when we'll find the time to see a movie.

Wow! popcorn:: Brent in 3-D!!!

For those of you who don't know - Brent was our cruise director on the Magic two weeks ago. There is a woman on the DIS boards, that we met on our cruise, who is obsessed with him. His picture is under her signature....if you're curious check out her trip report...it's on the thread to Brent Land and back...it's pretty funny

So, new question...
From all of your collective experience(s), how far out does DCL announce what the shore excursions will be? And, when I finally get to book (forever and a day from now), is it possible to book differing excursions? I'm thinking that there might be a possibility that DH might want to some mountain-goat hiking thing that won't be my cup of tea.
k

If you are in a suite you can book 105 days out, castaway club member 90 days out and everyone else 75 days.

I would hope they would post the excursions soon, but my guess is they probably won't have anything finalized until 6 months before the cruise.

If you look at the previous edition Passporter, it shows some of the excursions from the 2007 Med. cruises. Not sure if they will continue, but it will give you an idea of cost and type. I know there were excursions for Rome ranging from $50-$350 per person.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I wish you all good health, peace and love

and make a pretty big dinner - we had a pretty traditional spread - turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, broccoli and mac and cheese for my food challenged son...and then a lot of dessert....you eat until you feel sick....it's just expected. :rotfl: :headache:

I know that we have a long way to go until the cruise, but let's keep this board alive. Maybe if it's in the beginning, we will find more people to join it....I'm reading up on past med cruises and we're going to have a blast.

So here's a packing tip....
One of my co-workers is going to Madrid next week, and she got some of those bags that you can put a vacuum cleaner to to shrink them. However, she told me that just rolling them up to expel the air works as well! She said that stuff is now just "rolling around" in her suitcase! You'd still have weight issues, but at least they're be room for souvenirs!

that concern me. Based on the fact that we have 7 suitcases for our western carribean cruise this past November (2 adults, 2 children). They were packed "lightly" so we wouldn't exceed weight limits...I'm concerned about the Med. 10 days - overseas...it's going to cost me a small fortune to get my luggage there.

Ok, so I've never been on a cruise before, but the 3 of us have never used more than 2 suitcases! What, exactly, should I be packing for? :confused3

the issue with a cruise is that you need casual clothes for the daytime and nicer clothes including formal wear for dinner on the ship.

the most suitcases we've ever taken on a trip were 2 suitcases and a rolling tote bag and that was for the 2 week TA disney cruise. there are 3 of us.

you need nicer clothes for dinner in the dining room, since Disney requests no shorts, but many on the Caribbean cruise ignored that...my thought is that Europeans tend to be more formal at meals, so it may be dressier. There's at least one formal night, one semi formal night, other theme nights. We need shorts and bathing suits. Clothes for Palo, shoes, toiletries....It's not really that I had too much stuff...i was afraid to over pack my suitcases so I was overly cautious, since I booked my flights before the suitcase surcharge and I was able to bring two bags per person for free

about the fuel charge surcharge that we all have in our reservations but Disney is not charging on new bookings any more...we have our TA fighting with them. The thread went up yesterday and there are already 9 pages of messages. Some people got Disney to just remove them, others Disney is fighting and saying perhaps they get on OBC. Many are cancelling and rebooking without the charge. However, I can't, since I booked the last cat 3cabin on this ship and apparently for this cruise they have sold out of all cat 1-4 cabins.

Keep in mind that there is a cheap laundry facility on board, so you can wash your clothes. You don't need 10 days of underwear, etc...

Sorry wifey.

Not piling on, just offering additional advice.

On vacation, I'm the laundry guy.:woohoo:
