It seems that Walt Disney World will be selling Annual Passes again soon. In the announcement that "passholders will no longer receive complimentary magic bands" Disney stated this applied to “Annual Pass purchases and renewals made August 16, 2021 and beyond.” This implies that Annual Passes will finally be available for purchase again by the time August 16th rolls around.

Wondering why they used this specific wording regarding the 16th, it would seem to be an official cut off date and renewal period.

I check in that day If! If this happens, I wonder if I can upgrade my multi day ticket since I'll be back for runDisney in February for Princess.

Because people can renew APs? Technically, a renewal is a purchase of an AP, just not a new AP. This rumor has been around for a while, ever since it was announced that WDW would no longer provide free magic bands to AP holders.

They should offer AP only for DVC members to be used only when they are staying onsite. That would be a great perk and would cut out the locals who go on a daily or weekly basis for next to nothing when you figure what they pay for a daily admission making the parks more crowded. Also stop the locals with a AP from buying all the new merch when it comes out and selling it on ebay. Maybe slow down all the vloggers who can be annoying in the parks. Disney has been overcrowding the parks for the capacity of attractions and dining they have and this would help with that by cutting out the lowest cost tickets per day.

Sorry no. What about the non-DVC out of state AP holders? I didn't renew my last one (dumb me) when it expired because I knew I wouldn't be doing as many days that upcoming year but before that I had one for about 7 years. I live in Georgia within a 7 ish hour drive and go down for at least 4 nights about 2 or 3 times a year. Not a local, not a DVC owner.

WOW!! :rotfl2: Locals can't afford AP's, I live 10 minutes from WDW, and have met many locals who have only been to WDW once in years because its' too expensive. I am a former CM and there were many people in my orientation classes who had never been to the parks before starting to work there. Locals don't go as much as people think.

Same! I live in Savannah (4 1/2 hour drive to the gate) and usually try to shoot down there a few times a year. If I couldn't get an annual pass, I would go waaaaaay less frequent.

So because I live within a 30 minutes drive of the parks, I should have to pay full price all the time? I don't think so.

Disney could quickly and easily stop people from buying out new merchandise. Scan their AP in order to get the discount and then track the items they purchase. Cap that at a certain number of items so they can't just buy it all.

There is a cap on items, but it is usually 10 per person which is a lot and there is no tracking so they could go to 10 stores, or have multiple people in their party with AP's buy the quota. One time at Epcot, we were waiting to buy a box of limited edition pins. The 3 people in front of us (All AP's) each bought 10, (actually I think the third person got 7) but they were gone and we didn't get even one. I don't think Disney cares who buys the merchandise, just as long as it is getting bought, so there won't be a solution to quantity allowed. 🙁

I'm aware of the cap, but if they track that along with the AP number that they have sold it to they can analyze that data and determine that this is someone who comes in and purchases in bulk repeatedly. They can then put a limit on that person's purchases more than someone else. On items like that, Disney knows they are going to get sold, so a simple software change can make more customers happy, meaning more return visits, meaning more long-term cash coming in.

I just hate that Disney seems to have such short-term thinking recently. And in this context, I'm defining recently to mean "last decade", not COVID era .
