August 16, 2011, Disney Dream - Part 4

I just LOVED Serenity Bay on CC, it was my first time at the adult beach and ohhhh what a difference. Can I go back there now?
Which 5 night are you doing? My DD is trying to talk me in to a 4 nt on the Dream in November 2012. I booked 2 cabins for dummy dates, so I have a lot of play. I right now have the 7/20 eight night booked but that I think is too many Disney shows for me, so I'm thinking a 4 night or waiting for the Fantasy :) I heard they are taking the kinks out of the Dream with the Fantasy. Can't wait to hear about all the details.

We were booked on the June 17th 5 night on the Magic. We just changed it today to the Sept. 12th sailing instead. I really wanted to do the 8 night but DH didn't want 4 sea days.

Hi guys,

We had an amazing time in the dream and booked a dummy date for a possible cruise in 2013:goodvibes.

We are still at wdw, staying at kidani village (animal kingdom) it's fab.

We r a bit concerned however about the hurricane as we are due to fly back home 7pm on Friday:scared1:Being from uk never experienced anything like this and not sure what to do?

Going to Harry potter world tomorrow :wizard:
Take care x

Helen,

The storm seems to be moving away from FL so you shouldn't be too worried about it. You will probably just get some rain nothing that should delay your flight home.

Have fun!

Hi everyone! We really enjoyed our cruise but it ended way too fast. We all decided we like 7 night cruises better. Unfortunately, didn't get a chance to meet many of you-- couldn't find you for the meet on Tuesday afternoon and the timing for the meet for Carol's clients didn't work out for me due to lifeboat drill timing and sailaway party. I did get a chance to meet Helen one day in the corridor outside our room, and, I met Christine and her DD in one of the gift shops. I met a few DHs in the rental car shuttle on the way to port.

We stayed at AKL on Sunday night which was a great way to end our trip and then went back to work yesterday.:sad2:

DS11 had a great time in the Edge - a really great time. He forgot to get email addresses or cell phone numbers of some of his new friends so he is upset by that.

My favorite show was Believe - almost didn't go and decided at the last second. Glad I did. Did not like those comedians/jugglers on the 1st night.

Didn't get a chance to rebook at the desk. There was a CM standing at the line and asked us to fill out a form and that DCL would call me this week. Didn't get a call but got an email from Carol saying we were booked for 1st week of December on Fantasy for 2013. I wanted to talk to them about the NY cruise for 8 nights next summer or a dummy date. I would much prefer to not book a dummy date for a 7 night cruise if I don't have to -- plus, it is currently booked for 2 outside rooms in case we bring our 5 yr old granddaughter with us.

Would love if someone could post the group pic.

We joined DVC onboard and we are super excited about that!!! :cool1:

Also would love if anyone posted pics of some of their FE gifts -- always good to get ideas for future cruises. ;)

Oh well-- time to get ready for work. Post-cruise depression is hitting really hard around here.

Hey everyone!!

We are headed to MK with the Anderson's & Allard's this morning!!:cool1::banana:

Hi Woobie that would be me :). My DH said to tell your DH "hello". Take care...nice meeting you.

Hubby says hi right back. Great meeting you, too.

Thanks for the beer in the WDT. It was nice meeting and talking to you on CC.

You too and you're welcome. I felt so bad. As I was walking back up to my seat, I realized I probably should have bought your wife a drink, too, but the show was starting, so I didn't go back. Tell her she has an IOU. ;)

Has anyone heard any news on the person with the medical emergency? I would love to hear that things turned out fine. I could be wrong, but I believe the family of this person was from these boards. I think they had our green lanyards on.

Another passenger told us it was a teenager and her grandparents. Supposedly the girl was having seizures. I'm hoping she's fine by now, but, like you, would like to know for sure.

The second emergency call was for a 92 year old woman who had fallen into such a deep sleep, they couldn't wake her despite shaking and yelling at her. This is from her niece. They watched her overnight & she woke up on her own in the morning.

Hi Woobie,

I was at Budget with you on the 16th. What a disaster:scared1: I took a private shuttle to the port with another family. I was there with my wife and three daughters.

Joe

Were you the family with the matching red shirts?

If anyone went to the comedy show the first night, (the 2nd one after 1st dining), that was my son that got carried up on stage (Ryan). We were able to video it. Fun!

I got on the scale yesterday. It wasn't bad!!:woohoo:

Clearly the rebooking desk knows you want a dummy date, if you just drop the card in the box LOL. I just got an e-mail that I am booked in two rooms on the December 8th, 2012 Western, on the Fantasy! I think it's hilarious that they just book you without even calling or anything. Wow, the prices are high on that cruise!!! I don't think I could swing it, good thing it's only a dummy date!
What dates are you guys getting, if you dropped the card in the box?

I wrote on my card that I wanted the least expensive cruise in 11/12, that I needed 2 cabins, and that I didn't care whether the cabins were near one another because I planned to rebook when the 2013 dates were released. I got the same "we'll contact you within two weeks" letter in our cabin a day after dropping my card in the box. My TA emailed me with the reservation information on Monday - I'm booked on a 3 night Dream, 11/1-4/12, category 9B. The price of the cruise is $993.34 per room, so my deposit was only $89.10 for each room. (By the way, the price was so low that it makes me tempted to keep the reservation and take the cruise. I don't think my husband would go for it, but it is tempting. . . . )

And I want to echo the comments about FE group 2. This was our first Disney cruise, and the gifts made it even more special for our kids. The gifts seemed to be neverending - everytime we returned to our cabin at least one more gift was there. The candy was great to take to the shows (and I loved the Pirates of the Carribean container - it went to all of the shows with us). The crafts were awesome - I can't wait to hang the ornament on my tree this Christmas and use the scrabook. There was lots to keep the kids busy on the cruise - playing cards, beach balls and flying discs to name a few, and the emergency kits came in handy on CC when my daughter got a cut on her finger. The magnets are now proudly displayed on our fridge - I will think of this vacation everytime I see them. There were so many great gifts that I know I'm missing dozens. But every one of them was greatly appreciated. Thank you!

So sad that the trip is quickly coming to an end!!

Boo hoo we leave the Wilderness Lodge in fifteen minutes. The Van Beeks had a great vacation with old and new friends!!!!

Hello all!!
We are now back in AZ, and will be heading home on Friday. I can't believe it is already over!! It was so wonderful meeting some of you, and reconnecting with old friends! Randy and I had had a great time with you!! I really enjoyed those nights we we spent in different places on the ship!! We also enjoyed hanging out with everyone on CC!! Thank you all in group 1 for those wonderful FE gifts!!
For those of you still at WDW, have a safe trip home!!

Miss you and Randy!!

Keep your eye on Irene. Your hurricane "curse" has been broken , but Irene has her eyes set on CT.

Hoping that if she comes to CT that she can make my vacation last one more day longer or delay the start of school by one day!!:rotfl::lmao:

I left a message in your room at TreeHouse Villas did you get it the girls wanted to meet Keira!

Hi everyone! Just logging in briefly to say hi! We've been at the Poly since getting off the ship on Sunday, and have had 2 good days thus far, though we're trying to watch what Irene is going to do and how that could impact our Thursday plans or Friday departure.

Thanks to everyone for a great cruise! Great FE's group !. Man are we a notebook and tote bag loving crowd. Unfortunately, when packing on Saturday I came across the little cards I printed to insert into our FE gifts that we gave out, since I hadn't gotten our names on the gifts before DH packed the box to mail to the port. So if anyone in group one was wondering where the green tote bags with the logo on them and various stuff inside, they were from us!

Whoever gave us the larger logo totebag - thank you! I toted mine all over the ship, since it was the perfect size for our extra large Family autograph book. And the sunscreen towelettes we received came in handy on Sunday when we found ourselves heading to the MK with no sun screen on! They worked great! Oh, and my DD loves the Minnie tile necklace - has been the perfect addition to wear at the parks! Those are just some of the fab gifts that we received. (I also loved the "I did FE on the Dream and only got this magnet" magnet.)

Have fun back at work everyone, and send your prayers and thoughts to those of us still in Florida that this storm passes us by this week!

Cathleen

I was wondring who that was from!!:rotfl2: I asked DS if there was a tag with it and he said, "I don't know!!! LOL!!"

Has anyone heard any news on the person with the medical emergency? I would love to hear that things turned out fine. I could be wrong, but I believe the family of this person was from these boards. I think they had our green lanyards on.

That was very sad, those poor people, I like you, truly hope they are OK

I ope they are OK too!

Sadly our trip comes to an end today :sad1:

Had a great day park hopping yesterday - though the heat was tough during the day. Actually slept in today - something that we didn't get to do over the last 11 days :rotfl:

A quick accounting of our stuff and it looks like we only "lost" one thing on vacation - an autograph book! We usually lose something! Fortunately it was used 1 day pre-cruise and was replaced early!! Vicki is on a quest to find it!

Family votes on their favorite stuff as we quickly look back:

Me - The "Believe" show and laying around on the beach :)
Vicki - Vera Bradley outlet in Orlando :rotfl:, Pirate night, family portraits we had done.
Tim - "food"
Jake - Aquaduck
Keira - Kids' clubs, swimming.

On the downside - collectively we shared an "odd" dining experience (service and table mates) and a disdain for lines, crowds, and some rude people (e.g. an older man actually pushed Keira forcing his way into the theater).

What was your "odd" dining experience? We had nice tablemates and pretty good servers. They were new to Disney and you could tell that they were really trying....they weren't as smooth as the seasoned servers, but still good.

I talked to someone at the desk and she gave me the Dec.1 7-night Magic out of Galveston which we will change once the 2013 dates come out! She booked us a 10 C GTY....must be a cheap one...my deposit was only $230!!!

WELCOME HOME!!!! I love our DVC. I want to add on someday, but DH is holding me back!!! :lmao::lmao:
We also decided we like the 7 day cruises better! 5 nights is too short!! :)
I liked the Believe show too!!

OMG your son was great!!! Did he know they were going to pick him? We thought he had to know because if he was a shy kid he would have freaked when they carried him up on stage.
He must have some personality, I liked when he started walking off LOL

I didn't get on the scale, I can't just yet. I figure I'll wait until after Labor Day.

I couldn't believe one night we got back to the cabin and all the pockets of the FE were FULL!!! This was the best FE we have had to date and what great gifts.
My daughters painted the ornaments and put the shells and sand inside, The sand is straight from our Long Island beaches :) I know they only put their names on the chalkboards but didn't put it on the ornaments.

I also booked 2 cabins and they also gave us the Galveston sailing on 12/1 7 day sailing. Booked me in one cabin DH in the other and only needed $143 per cabin. I'm looking at booking January 2014 :rotfl:

I left a message in your room at TreeHouse Villas did you get it the girls wanted to meet Keira!

We were at the parks all day and didn't get your message until after we returned after 1AM. I sent you a text in response. Keira is bummed she didn't get to meet up with them. We saw you guys 2x, but one was when we were in line for the Aquaduck and you guys were gone when we got off. We also saw you at the Golden Mickeys, but couldn't find you in the crowd afterwards. Loved the girls interview on the "red carpet" :).

At SSR we stayed pretty much exclusively at the Paddock pool, too.

Boo hoo we leave the Wilderness Lodge in fifteen minutes. The Van Beeks had a great vacation with old and new friends!!!!

Yes, we were sad too leaving Wilderness Lodge today too. As per usual, the only way to get over leaving DCL/WDW is to plan the next trip.

We have a lot of plans "cooking" already. In addition to the 7 day eastern on the Fantasy next August Missy is very interested in the 6/15/12 2 day cruise to nowhere.

We also talked about going to WDW over Spring Break. Actually entertained the idea of taking the Auto Train, but this time may be (if it works for you guys) coming down a day early and visiting the girls.

The ideas are really flowing and it would be unheard of (for us) to go on two cruises and WDW all in one year, but I am hopeful.

Glad to know who the ornament was from. It will definitely find a permanent home on our Christmas tree. :)

What was your "odd" dining experience? We had nice tablemates and pretty good servers. They were new to Disney and you could tell that they were really trying....they weren't as smooth as the seasoned servers, but still good.

We had below average service and very "odd" tablemates. The server himself was very polite and efficient - not much of a personality, but I think he was new and he was struggling with the language believe it or not. He was being dragged down by a very inefficient asst. server. He took FOREVER on drink orders and most everything else. Very slow service. Funny thing - DW ordered a lime with her drink. It came out with a lemon. He then proceeded to have a "mini argument" with her about the "yellow one is the lime and the green one is the lemon"?!?!? :rotfl2: Anyway, after a conversation with the head server, things improved, but the service overall fell short of our expectations.

Making things worse for our dining team were the tablemates, who not once could manage to arrive on time for dinner. 15 mins, 20 mins, and even 30 mins late one night. That really through the servers timing off.

I don't want to blast them here on a public board so I'll spare the "odd" details. Suffice it to say, we should have gone with our gut and asked to be reassigned after the first night. One thing I will say though was the "dress code". I know it's debated heavily here on the DIS, but we were really surprised to see how dressed down a lot of people were. At the Royal Palace - lots of shorts and t-shirts (adults and kids) for example?! Our tablemates wore t-shirts and shorts each night - and we're not talking about nice t-shirts, either!

The girls fell asleep in their own little beds as soon as they hit their pillows. Steve is hard at work in our library editing the pictures, and I'm knee deep in laundry!

We had so much fun seeing old friends and meeting new ones. I'm disappointed that time flew by so fast and I didn't get to meet everyone. Harry, the girls were on the lookout for Keira and they think they might have played alongside her in the Club. Cathleen, I'm sorry our paths didn't cross on the ship but hope to meet you on another cruise!

Many thanks for all of the FE gifts that landed on our doorstep. My twins loved racing to the door to see if anything was in their pockets. I was amazed by all of the creativity and generosity.

Though we are all back, let's keep in touch. I hope to see many of you again on future cruises.....

Beth
