August 16, 2011, Disney Dream - Part 4

About the charms: on the Dream in May I went to the store on the ship that sells them (can't remember the name) and the person helping me find that chamila mickey cruise ship charm told me they'd been sold out for months. They did have lots of other charms but that was the one I wanted. :sad2:

About the 9 inch vinylmations: much to my surprise, over in the corner of of one store (again I forget the name) there were the vinylmations. So if anyone has forgotten to bring one on board for signatures, go and check out the stores. They aren't on sale (no surprise there).;)

About the Dooney bags: In May, I had no idea what I was doing and since I knew that Missy and I would be together in August, I decided to wait. They did have lots of selections. Since then the Disney Store had some great deals on Dooneys so I did go ahead and get one bag. But a DCL bag is still out there waiting to be purchased if all the stars line up in the sky. Steve and Jeff need to spend lots of time at the sports bar, me thinks.

The other thing I really wanted as a momento was a large beach towel from Castaway Cay. I saw a huge beach towel (actually it was more blanket sized) that was very colorful and wonderful and wasn't available on the ship, just on the island. But when I went over to ask about it on the island, I was told that it was a popular item and was sold out. The person there told me it was hit or miss in terms of when shipments came in. Suppose I could have called the disney merchandise number and pursued it further, but life got in the way.:upsidedow

I hope they have the charms when we are onboard!!

I have a DCL wristlet by Dooney but would love to get another bag. Everyone, knows that a women can't have enough handbags!!:rotfl::lmao:

The beach towel sounds nice. We were just saying how we need some more beach towels for out by the pool!!

Evening everyone! Hurricane Kristin :rotfl2:!!

I have 4 Disney Dooneys and the makeup bag so you KNOW the DCL Dooney is in my future. Will you guys take my Steve to the sports bar too?;)

That Castaway Cay beach towel is more tent sized in case all of us need to huddle underneath as Hurricane Kristin roars by!

Okay, we are all being way too funny tonight,:lmao::lmao::lmao:

On the first day, so we can get the best selection:lmao:

The hurricane itself doesnt scare me, but I don't want to miss CC and I would really like calmer waters than our last cruise.

We are on our way home from a very wet day in Allentown, PA. It was fun but we used our $.88 Walmart ponchos most of the day.

Lots of old friends, good food, and excellent drum corps!

Tomorrow we recover and pack!

OMG! I go to London for a few days, and come back to find you've moved threads, and racked up 53 pages of content!

And, I agree with assigning it to the TA when you rebook. Between the DCL onboard credit and the Disney Visa OBC, and the TA's OBC, every littel bit helps.

Disney Visa OBC???? How did you get this? I used my Disney Visa to pay for my cruise, but I did not earn any additional on board credit for this. (unless you are referring to the Disney rewards, which I got).

If you used your Disney Visa to pay for your entire cruise (deposit and any other subsequent payments), you should receive a $50 on board credit.

Ours didn't show up until after we made our final payment. Received that PIF email confirmation and it was NOT on there, but then applied a few days later (TA double checked it for us).

I have also been told you can't combine rebooking obc and the Disney visa obc.

Did you combine it with a rebooking OBC/

My TA also said we could not combine OBB OBC with the Disney Visa OBC. OBB is usually more.

Anyone know if you get the OBB OBC for cabins that were booked onboard but contain only 1st time cruisers?

I thought you could combine them as long as your reservation is not part of a group reservation??:confused3:confused3

I just emailed my TA about rebooking on board, assuming that we wouldn't get the Disney Visa OBC in conjunction w/ the rebooking OBC.

She told me to definitely use the Visa because you can get both OBCs!

We have never been able to combine the Disney Visa OBC with any other Disney provided OBC, other than the $25 OBC for booking online. The Disney Visa OBC is a booking code discount (code is DCC) and DCL only allows one booking code discount per reservation. So you can either get onboard booking benefits, Disney Visa benefits, kids sail free, military, etc, but not more than one since those are all booking code discounts. For this cruise, we are getting the $25 online OBC, $50 Disney Visa OBC, and the OBCs from our TA. (Despite sailing 2 weeks after booking, we were never able to rebook our original opening day reservation for this cruise since it had already sold out above our category by that point.)

Okay...more rebooking questions.

Say I book a dummy date for a 3 day in early December (which qualifies me for $100 OBC plus the 10% down/10% discount)...if I end up switching to a 7 day (understanding that I will have to pay any additional deposit $$) does the OBC credit get adjusted to $200?

I would assume that if I booked a 7 day dummy booking and downgraded it to a 3 day my OBC would be reduced but I'm not sure DCL would allow the adjustment the other way.

Is it okay to just rebook me & dh on the dummy date and add the kids later or should the kids be on the reservation from the start?

The OBC you receive when you sail on an onboard booking is based on your CC level and the length of your actual cruise when you sail. The benefits freely transfer with your reservation as long as you don't cancel it, though there are some sailings (like the Fantasy MV) where you don't get the full onboard benefits (OBC, but no discount).

I just realized I never ordered one of those darn vinylmations to have signed!

We bought ours onboard last year. Sounds like tinkerbelltwins saw them onboard in the Dream gift shop. Go there early!

I like the towel they have that says "Mine, Mine, Mine!"

The hurricane itself doesnt scare me, but I don't want to miss CC and I would really like calmer waters than our last cruise.

My worst fear is a hurricane in Orlando that prevents us from getting in on our flight. We were in WDW for hurricane Jeanne in Sept 2004 and the airport was closed for 3 days. Luckily, because of the hurricane they let us switch to an earlier flight and we got in hours before the hurricane hit on a Sat. Then the airport closed down completely until Tuesday. WDW was also closed for Sunday and we were confined to our rooms at WLV. It was quite an experience. So as long as we get on the boat, and it sets sail, I will be happy.

Wow... that's the airport I fly out of tomorrow!

You know I have no idea what a 'Dooney' bag is or looks like - we don't have them here in the UK:confused3

Does anyone know if anything has been set up for a parking lot meet, prior to boarding the cruise?

r- pudo - to take place on a sea day with jeff as a dis meet.

Meeting place will be forward on deck 13 between 2- 2.30pm. There is an area to the left (starboard) side of the currents bar, that has chairs and open space.
If it is storming rain outside then we will have to meet in a sheltered area. I was thinking of the covered area on the left (port) side of the quiet cove pool- this is forward on deck 11 near the start of our tour. If anyone has a good suggestion of another backup meeting place in case of adverse weather your welcome to let us know.

at 2.30p sharp we head off to tour the cabins which hopefully should be done in about an hour or so.
The selection of cabins will be narrowed down to those that are somewhat signficantly different from each other, so that we are not seeing duplicates.

Those who are showing, would be the disers who volunteered their cabins to viewed.

Those who are touring will be the tourists travelling to view the volunteered cabins.

Those who want to do both will come along on the tour to see the other cabins and when we reach their cabin hopefully they will open the door so we can see theirs also.

the lifeboat drill takes place at 4pm.

hopefully as long as we don't linger too long during our tour we should be done to give everyone enough time to meet back at their cabins to pick up the rest of their family for 4pm.

the sailaway party takes place at 4.30pm. you still have time to enjoy yourself.

If possible try to be on board by 1.30pm. There has been alot of changes to the port arrival times by dcl, which may have adversely affected our boarding times also.
There use to be a dcl ship tour that mets at the port adventures desk at 1pm. There is was also a spa tour at this time.
When i got on the dream in april we got on really late (2.20pm). So we dropped off my dm in cabanas the buffet restaurant, went on a tour, then picked her up an hour later. Since we had missed the scheduled spa tour when we went there at 5pm after the sailaway party, it was quiet and they gladly gave us our own little private tour of the spa, salon and fitness center.
There's alot of activities that overlap for you to to have a choice. Some do get repeated on another day.

I have sent details of the tour to all participants. If you have not received the PM or have questions please PM me.

If anyone has any other questions or concerns or ideas to help this tour work please let me know.

Brenda

Thank you so much for organising this - it will be a great way to walk round and view the ship:thumbsup2

I think it's about time for them to name a storm after her!

Not TOO soon please. Al least wait until the end of Aug when everyone is back at their own homes.

Placement is very important!!!! Last year I had my friend get me a tassle Dooney and forgot to mention to her about placement....well when she brought it to me it was still wrapped in the tissue paper......you know what that means???? She didn't even get to see it before she got it for me!! The placement was ok.....could've been better, but I still love and use it!! I'm looking forward to choosing one this time.

The things you learn on this board! :lmao:
