August 16, 2011, Disney Dream - Part 4

On a storm related note, I work in a corporate park in Princeton, NJ. There is a lake in the center of the park that apparently flooded to the point where there is no access to the office buildings. Jeff is doing the no work on Monday dance :dancer: because the offices are closed.

Elena, glad you guys fared well! Good luck to those of you still dealing with it!

None of the 4 of us got sick on, or after our trip.

Thanks! None of us got sick either. But I think I did feel a little vertigo(swaying) on land for a few days. Not much though!

Funny thing was I cleared this with my wife, but not my 7 year old. :rotfl2: Sarah was at the kid's club during the open house when she was picked up early by sissy and brought back to the suite unbeknownst to us. She was very unhappy to find soooo many people in "her home". I had to take her down to Mickey's Mainsail, I promised to buy her a Jessie doll the night before, I thought then was an opportune time. :goodvibes I did get to meet some of our group but not sure if Marsha made it to the suite. I did she her at Palo though.

Thanks again for opening up your room for the tour!
I think taht was a great time for Sarah to get her Jessie doll!

Chuck Maida had 56 rooms booked on our cruise, he contacted his clientle, I think via a mass phone message. Those in our group that are not All Season Travel clients were informed in a less formal and obviously less effect word-of-mouth approach since the final date and time was not determined until after we set sail. If I had the list our of group's staterooms maybe I could have figured out the phone system enough to send a mass message. Nah, who am I kidding, the phone system is a pain :lmao:

I just happened to be sitting next to renda at lunch and asked her if she had heard when the tour was going to be (she had gotten a message from your TA..her TA too!) .....so she told me when it was! If I hadn't met and seen her at lunch I wouldn't have known!!
I couldn't figure out those phones either!!! The only way I sent messages was by replying to one!!!!:rotfl2:

Cool! Will you have to wrok from home?
Glad that it sounds like nobody had any major issues due to the storm!:thumbsup2

I can work from home, but it doesn't appear I will have to since most of the company doesn't have the same VPN options as the IT department.

We missed the suite party too.

There is no way we can do the turkey day cruise in 2012. Matthew in college and Alexa a jr in high school, possibly taken college classes, too risky to miss 3 days. Not to mention I just looked at the prices again for our room configurations, $7900 before the 10% discount. No way I can afford that. I sure wish we could, but it will have to be 2013 for us. If any of you will still be going then.

Hey everyone! Busy weekend since getting home. I worked Friday, I have no clue how Saturday passed so quickly (unpacking some), this morning DH and I ran a 5K and today DD was in a parade. Now the weekend is almost over and tomorrow DH and I have to return to work. :sad1:

Glad to read that most of you living in on the east coast are hanging in there without much damage. I hope that anyone who is without power gets it back quickly.

We are trying to figure out our next cruise....it will help the pain of this one ending! :rotfl: Seriously looking at the Thanksgiving 2012 cruise because I hear that I have some friends going on that one! :rotfl2:

Just have to post that DS has been under the weather. He was really out of it the last day at WDW (Thursday) and now today he is miserable with cold like symptoms. I am hoping it passes quickly but he still has a week before school starts so we are good.

Yes, you should book Thanksgiving 2012, then we can run into each other again!

Hope Ben feels better soon. This cold has kicked my butt. I know that I was tired and all from being on the go, so that probably didn't help my immune system fight the bug. I am flying out Tuesday for Chicago for work, but actually thinking of calling in sick tomorrow.

I'm glad I could help out with info on the time. The TA had sent out a notice to each of their clients. It contained info about a few things, one of which was the opportunity to check out the room. I should have come along and checked it out.

Just got home last night -- flight actually landed about 15 mins early!
I think we flew right over the storm - it was pretty bumpy the whole flight and DBF, who is NOT comfortable flying to begin with, was nervous, but did pretty well after a couple jack n cokes :lmao:
now, they are talking about evacuating my area (They're saying south of montauk hwy, but i'm 1-1/2 blocks from there  ) guess i'm on the way to Deer Park.
anyhoo...LOVE the group pic! I was on the balcony when you guys were taking it - had totally forgotten about the timing and such.
couldn't get into the mixology class, but anyone who was at the margarita/tequila tasting...yeah, that was ME who went legless getting off the barstool :rotfl2: good times...good times
now that i'm back on the grid, i'll start working on our trip-report - if i can remember it :rotfl:

Lisa...I hope you are safe!

I grew up in Deer Park and my sister just moved back in w/ my dad there. They weathered the storm well w/ just a few light blinks.

Jen, Hope Ben feels better soon and that the start of school goes smoothly for all of the Andersons!:)

Just for fun, I priced the Thanksgiving 2012 Fantasy... sadly, it would actually be LESS expensive than the Alaska cruise we booked for Aug 2012 on the Wonder (same category).

Craziness!

So will you be joining us?? My TA was actually able to come up with some good pricing tonight!!

Those Alaska prices are high -- I'm wondering if DCL will come out with some KSF deals like they did this year. It doesn't appear they are selling all that well since the prices seem to be the same as the opening day. We're booked on both right now, and if we have to drop one as we get closer, it will be Alaska. There's No way I want to miss the Fantasy all decked out for two holidays! It is shaping up to be a mini reunion too!!!! :)

I couldn't believe that the holiday cruise on the Fantasy was coming in below the Alaska cruise!

Unlikely that we could go... it's almost impossible for DP to get time off at Thanksgiving (can't even get the Fri after off). My classes don't end until Mon/Tues, so I'd have to find a sub. :sad2:

This all assumes that we have the same jobs next fall, which may or may not be true, as DP is in a "transitional" program, meaning that she'll be looking for a permanent job (hopefully where she is now) this fall. popcorn::

Who knows though. ;) Of course, that could mean as many as 4 cruises in 1 year, that would clearly be insane (or just addicted? not sure.) :rolleyes1 :yay:

Maria, It was good talking to you! Too bad you didn't go with me to tour the room.:)

That is CRAZY!!!! It was nice meeting you and your DP and going to the DVC meeting. Did you all ever find out any more details about what happened?
What do you teach? It's not likely that we will get to go on the Thanksgiving cruise either!

Marsha, I enjoyed meeting you and Charles in line for Cap'n Jack, I only wish I would have known it was you sooner!!

I enjoyed meeting you too. I am glad that we had the green lanyards or I would not have known that I was standing in line with a DIS friend.

Hope everyone made it through the storm ok..........We had a lot of rain but other than that we are ok here!! School was cancelled last night for Monday!!

School & daycare is closed here today too.

Marsha...Did you visit the Roy Suite?

Yes, I was able to visit the suite. It was very nice. My DH and his friend from college were very jealous of the showers in the bathroom. They both commented that it seemed they would not have to duck down when taking a shower in the suite. DH is 6'5 and DF is 6'4 so they loved the extra room.

I made it. Thank you for telling me about it when we met in Palo. It was very nice meeting you. I was there when your DD came back and was wondering why there were so many people in her home. Here are some pictures. We were taking the pictures fast because it was quite crowded. LOL

It was nice to meet you too! We never did get more information from DVC... but they did drop all the heavy Aluani advertising and switched back to AKV. From what I hear, they are "taking deposits" for Aluani but obviously can't process it yet. They obviously believe they'll be able to work it out with the HI gov't. I was glad we left early to go up to the spa drawing because my DP won a facial (which we gave to my mom)! :thumbsup2

Thanksgiving cruise... it's fun to Dream! (or have a Fantasy!)

I teach freshman chemistry at Boston University... not a good example for the prof to set, cutting class for vacation. :sad2:

This cracked me up. I can only imagine her reaction when she returned. Good thinking on your part regarding the Jesse doll. Thank you again for letting us view HER room.

Chuck Maida had 56 rooms booked on our cruise, he contacted his clientle, I think via a mass phone message.

It was actually a note on the fish outside the door with the details and some other info. If I had run (or known that I did) into anyone from here before hand, I would have shared.

We're targeting 2013. Not sure when specifically or which itinerary, though.

Irene was downgraded to a TS here. We had a few trees down, which killed a couple panes of our fence. We were hoping for more trees down in the back, but away from our house/fence. The back of the house is wetlands that we're not allowed to touch. Now if it was a natural cause... ;) We lost power for most of the day, finally returning around 11:30 last night. The kids & I had a sleepover in the family room (too dark upstairs for the 4 YO). All in all, about what I expected.

Hope everyone is feeling better.

Lisa...I hope you are safe!

Thanks, Christine!
Ironically, the power went out at DBF's place in Deer Park yesterday morning, but when I got home last night, it was abundantly clear that the power had been on ALL DAY at my place in Patchogue!! :rolleyes1

You couldn't be more right about HER room. :lmao:
