August 16, 2011 – 7 Night Alaska Sailing

Hello Neighbors! <snip> While we like to travel, we haven’t sailed on that many cruises (not compared to the veterans here on the boards!), but for those who are first time Disney cruisers I thought I’d share a list of things that we like to bring with us:

Thanks for the list ... there are some great ideas on there I never would have thought.

Our cabin is actually quite close to yours (between you and Mellers actually), but at my parents request I've agreed not to post the actual stateroom number.

It's hard to believe an almost 60 year old has to act like a 2 year old...

My dad is going to be 61 in August (just a few days before we cruise actually) ... my nephews are 4, 2, and 2 ... sometimes, we find it hard to decide who acts more like a toddler ... the boys or their grandpa! :goodvibes

Hello Neighbors! Thanks for the super helpful map Mellers!!

I will be the first to admit that I have a touch of OCD in me – well, maybe more than a little when it comes to packing for a trip. :rolleyes1 While we like to travel, we haven’t sailed on that many cruises (not compared to the veterans here on the boards!), but for those who are first time Disney cruisers I thought I’d share a list of things that we like to bring with us:

- power cord or extension cord (its seems the ships never have enough outlets)
- a clear, over the door shoe organizer – the bathrooms are small and there’s not a lot of counter space so it helps to have things where you can find them
- a few small disposable plastic containers (great for keeping snacks in the cooler/fridge in the room since the plates from room service don’t fit)
- ziplocks in various sizes (I’ve heard of people packing snacks for their excursions, although this is generally prohibited when you’re in a foreign country, but not sure about Alaska)
- a nightlight for the bathroom
- small flashlight
- plastic file folder – great for storing important docs and photos (on our last cruise they took a bunch of photos of our DD at daycare with her favorite princesses and it was a great way to protect them in our suitcase)
- you might consider bringing a large cup/water bottle to refill because the cups by the soda stand are pretty small (for sanitary reasons you’ll need to use the small cups to fill your water bottle)
- a bunch of small bills for room service and porters
- because we have a toddler, we bring a collapsible footstool – invaluable for letting her be self sufficient

Would love to hear what other folks have found invaluable/helpful to have on a cruise!

This is a great list! We bring everything on this other than the step stool. Please, let me also suggest packing a travel size dish soap. It is great for cleaning up travel cups and also works well as a retreater for oil or protein spots on your laundry. We also pack Purex 3in1 sheets for our laundry purposes. I am so glad those machines are now longer coin operated!

I have my docs :cool1: When I saw that I had them I started dancing around with my 9 moth olds :woohoo: They were looking at me like I was crazy (mainly because I am a little) :rotfl2: I have all my FE done but DancingMickey helped me finish and I left them at her house. So, i need to get them back from her. we ordered our shirts but they made a mistake but we got them back and they came out great. so you will see our family and Dancing Mickey's family wearing them. and I think we have almost everything we need for the cruise. CAN NOT WAIT!!!!!!!:dance3:popcorn:::cheer2:

FYI Next question will be up shortly for a special FE gift.:goodvibes

ok here is todays special FE gift question:

At Disneyland when riding The Disneyland Railroad, when you pull into New Orleans Square station you can hear the tic tic tic of a telegraph. What is the telegraph saying?

No Google lets see who the Disney Nerds are;) lol

Hi Everyone - I've been MIA for a little while. We've been traveling around for the past week and 1/2. DS went to a FCA (fellowship of Christian Athletes) hockey camp in Hagerstown, MD. So when we were heading back to pick him up we thru in a trip to our DD's 1st choice for college..Messiah College in Grantham, PA..near Carlisle and not too far from Gettysburg. We spent a couple of days in Gettysburg, went to pick up DS from camp and then drove 7 hours to New Hampshire for a family wedding. Can you say exhausted??? We put 1000 miles on my car since Thursday

BUT...we arrived home to our cruise documents :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I can't believe how quickly time is flying. The cruise will be here before we know it!

Just a note...both DD(almost 16) and DS(12) will be at the DIS meet on the Wonder.

Hope everyone is well!!!

Kelly

Thanks Mrs. Gumdrops! Dish soap is something we also pack, but the Purex is new. Great idea! We will be on vacation for 2 weeks so we'll definitely be doing a few loads of laundry. :laundy:

BTW forgot, FE are done!!! Did them this past Saturday. Also, most FE gifts are done and sorted. Just need to finish one more thing for all the kids (maybe the adults too) and finish up stuff for the very little ones! Then I just have the "family" gift which should take another 2 weeks. It will be worth it, though.

Lisa

totally impressed by your skill and ambition :worship: the kids and my mom and i finished up FE gifts last saturday. it was a fairly simple project so it was do-able by the kids and they loved making them :cloud9: i hope you guys like them - little imperfections and all. the kids put a lot of heart in there :lovestruc DS10 will be with nana all this week and they are planning on picking up some extra stuff for the little ones :flower3: hope we can fit it all in the luggage :scared1:

So excited that doc are arriving. Stopped by the AAA office to pick up travel books and maps but TA did not have docs yet. Always love the trip to her office!

My ds (10) is also lookig forward to finding some buddies to hang out with. Just read a post about the Jr. Ranger Program and that seems like something he would be interested in.

I know I don't post much but I try to read and catch up. :surfweb:

Look forward to meeting all of you at the meets etc.

AND A HUGE THANK YOU to Mellers...you rock!:worship:

We got our docs, too!!!! Not sure if they came yesterday or Saturday - was way tooooo hot to leave the house to check the mail on Saturday! Anybody else starting to worry about what to pack for the excursions? Hubby & I are "discussing" what we'll need!

Just have 1 small thing to finish for our FE gifts & waiting for something to be delivered. Great idea, Mellers for capping the groups at 15! :cheer2: Makes it so much easier to not worry about going overboard :rotfl: on them.

Debbie

Way back when Mellers put together a great packing list for clothing. I don't remember what post # it was, but you might want to do a little search on the thread. :surfweb:

It is saying the opening day statement of Walt Disney at Disneyland, I believe.

Funny thing, started posting a few days ago then it logged me out...guess I was too winded in my post:lmao:

Being the planner that I am I feel so out of it this time. I just barely booked out flights:eek: Now just need to do our hotel accomodations and then figure out what sightseeing we will do in vancouver...I am hoping to take a ferry over to Victoria. Went on a band trip with my kids a few years ago and LOVED it! Hope togo back with DH:love:

FE gifts are planned but some supplies are out of stock at my local Micheal's:confused3 So, I am a little stressed beause they are not done yet. I may have to hunt them down this next week so I can get them done. I really like doing them but I don't want to feel rushed.

My DS (9) is in contact with one other boy on here and would is interested in the Junior Ranger program too. We did it in Yellowstone last Summer and he earned his patch. PM me and I will give you our email address so they can correspond! :surfweb:

Just got a message from our TA that she received our DOC's:cool1: Now we can join the party:banana::banana:

I am just starting to make the list of things still needed to purchase before the trip...but I keep getting side tracked:headache: It is pretty hard when I look for something and then I see all these really cute things that I have to have match with the Pops twins. The other day I called two (2) Gymboree outlets for the red and white pokeadot dresses. So if you want any of that line it is out the Outlet stores only. Looks just like minnie mouse.

One thing that we really liked to pack with us is one of those collapsable laundry hampers. It lies flat in your suitcase and stores nice in the closet. I hate when all the clothes go everywhere, plus then when I go to do laundry I dont drop any personal items:rolleyes1

Still need to hunt down a few things to finish making the MAIN part of the FE gifts. The other supplies we picked up the other day. Getting a little paniced about the supplies not getting here :scared1: BUT I started thinking about how I can modify my plan.;)

Still need to finalize hotel plans and what to do while in Vancouver...so much to see...so little time.
