Thanks for the info! I had to check with DH's sister to see if she and her husband wanted to do this with us and they do! They live in Seattle and love it there. I describe Seattle as being "unfit for human habitation" only because I can't stand all the rain. It's rained every time I've been there. I love the city, just not the weather. DH and I LOVE Segway tours though. We have done them all over the country (including one in Anchorage the last time we cruised Alaska). I'm a little worried about the steep grades in Seattle because I'm not quite as fond of hills on Segways as I am flat ground, but we're looking forward to it. We're flying in on the 12th and are trying for a tour on the 13th.

Our song is "Something's Telling Me" by Stephen Bishop

Our Disney song is "My Pretty Irish Girl," and there's a bit of a funny story behind this. My heritage is Irish, (and Swiss, and English, and Native American, and probably a few other things sprinkled about,) but my maiden name is a Swiss/German name. The Romanization of my husband's Chinese surname that he usually uses is the same as an Irish surname, and, shortly after we were married, he received a card to some family reunion to "Celebrate his Irish Heritage." We got this mental picture of my husband (of obvious Asian ancestry) walking into the middle of an Irish family reunion and saying, "Hi, Cousin!"

After that, he started to call me his "Pretty Irish Girl," and the song stuck.



We thought we would use a different Romanization when we got on the ship for announcements. The ancestral family home (you'll bring honor to us all, family shrine, and all that) has been giving us a colossal headache, and one of the Romanizations of our name is "Dang".

So we now call it That Dang House .

When we get on the ship, we figure we'll ask to be announced as:

That Dang Family

and my parents will be announced as:

Those Dang In-Laws

i love that! i am of irish heritage too and have been to such a reunion so i can definitely get that image in my head and its hilarious!

isn't your DD into all things celtic?? my DD7 is an irish step dancer and wanted to know if yours does too? (i think she's just tickled at the idea of how there can be irish folks -dancers or not - all over the country. maybe it makes her feel like part of a club )

Ok, I know I haven't posted for a while, it's been crazy. DS (Eric) graduated from High School, and became an Eagle Scout. Finally all of the ceremonies and parties are over. He really surprised me by presenting me with his Eagle Mentor pin in addition to the Eagle mom pin...

Also, now that everything is over, and I have more time (I had to scrapbook 4 books for the aforementioned occasions), I have purchased one FE item, and started work on the other item. Mom has the idea for her item, but it cannot be purchased until closer in. DS & DD in their own cabin are procrastinators, hence DS had his Eagle project signed 8pm the night prior to his 18th b-day.

As for the FE themselves (I am responsible since I signed everyone up). I have no idea what I am doing. Worse case scenerio, I'll be buying something...

We are flying to Seattle on 8/13 and taking the morning train to Vancouver on 8/14. Trying to finish up all of those reservations within the next month.

so glad to see i am not the only one feeling behind little league season is just wrapping up around here so i'm hoping to gain a little more time during the week to do some planning. i really love the planning aspect of traveling, but i know it creates a bunch more stuff on my 'to do' list. i also like scrapbooking (when i have time - still have pages undone from last cruise ). have you seen some of the talented people on disboard? its just amazing what they can do with adhesive!

I am a little late joining the thread but I wanted to say hi!

This will be my 19th Disney Cruise. My two boys will be sailing with us ages 12 and 10. We are really looking forward to the cruise. We are heading to Seattle first. The Red Sox are in town. We will watch the game and head up via train the next day.

great to see another family from red sox nation my DH and I are originally from RI and i went to college in boston. DGM was born in everett on the other side of the tobin we will actually be in ma the week before the cruise for my DFIL's b-day. sadly my kids were both born down in the south, but they are also proud and loud bosox fans! we are also arriving in seattle on sun and got tix to the game (but the kids don't know that yet so SSSSHHHHHH) i think there may be a few others going to the game before leaving for vancouver - maybe it'll be a dis meet

as an aside: DD7 is getting her next scans done on friday -preventative check for (no) more cancer. i get a little anxious around scan time so i'm trying to stay distracted. hoping and praying all goes well.

DH and I, too, know all about "scan anxiety." My doctors scheduled my next scan for two days before we leave for the cruise and the follow-up appointment when we get back. I rescheduled both appointments -I'd be a mess if I had the scan before we left, and couldn't see the doctor & get the results until we got back.

She is definitely into all things Celtic--she will love to hear that your daughter is a step dancer. She wanted to do it, but unfortunately the cerebral palsy places a lot of strain on her knees and ankles, so she couldn't do it.

I certainly understand--we're dealing with finals here, and, while DD's school is excellent, it means that high school finals are more like college finals. I think my nerves are even more shot than hers are.
