August 13, 2011 Med - Mickey's Marauding Mates

Hi Annie, The Majestic is a very nice hotel; that's where we are booking while in Barcelona. It's also very good in location. :rotfl:

Hey MrA - I got a reply from the Majestic - they may be in a good location but they charge a lot extra for kids over 12 + they only put families in suites ($$$). (Just in case you didn't know that.) :goodvibes

OK, I have added Jeff and family to the first post...are those ages you gave us for your kiddos how old they are NOW or how old they'll be at sailing? I've been putting ages AT SAILING on the first post so if you can let me know about that + I need your age & Mina's age (if you want to share of course). I tried to count up how many cruises you have under your belt from your siggie - I thought I counted that your Nov. cruise will be your 8th DCL so I put that THIS one will be your 9th - did I get that right???

:

Hi there. That's the kiddos ages when we sail, though my oldest will be just a month away from 13 (how did THAT happen?) RE number of cruises, this November cruise is our 9th !!!!!! We are moving on up to platinum with the Med cruise! I think I missed one sailing in my signature.

Just had a look at the Majestic, but apparantly no availability for when we want it???

Looking at Casa Fuster as a possible alternative, but again, Barcelona has some pretty expensive hotels... :(

Oh yes it's not the cheapest. I'm just imagining that it's like the Polynesian, or similar at WDW, with out the characters or the Parks (Barcelona are the parks). Might save some money on taxi or transportation. The Barcelona touristic buses are the Disney Buses, and the Tabernas are the signature restaurants in Epcot; etc. :lmao: The Underground/Metro/Subway would be the monorail....:lmao:

Not all hotels have their 2011 rates out yet. I contacted a couple that said not until after the first of the year. We DO still have 10 months to go yet!! :rotfl: I think we're all just anxious!! I have been booked for just almost 1 year already as I first booked on opening day last October!! Think how anxious I am at this point!!!! I haven't looked into the Casa Fuster yet - I think probably because it is listed in the "luxury" category of my tour books and is described with words like "opulent"! :scared: We're not really "opulent" folk!! :rotfl: I will take a look but I doubt it will fit our budget and even if they DID the odds of them sleeping more than 2 per room are probably slim.:goodvibes

(PS) Luke - do you have any other info. for me to add to the first post or the website (ages, # of DCL's etc.)?!

I think that I'm going to have to get myself a map of Barcelona. I have been looking at hotels but I have no idea were they are in relation to anything

Kelly - I have a link to a map of Barcelona on the "Helpful Planning Links" page of the website!! It is interactive too!! :thumbsup2 Just click the link in my siggie to go to the website - if you add the link to your siggie too then you'd have it available in any of your posts!! (It's right next to the currency converter!)

Thanks - I never thought to check out the website!:thumbsup2

For any of our UK cruisers - There is a hotel chain called Barcelo and they have 3 hotels in Barcelona. They are very reasonably priced and 2 of the hotels sleep 4 in a room. I'm not sure of the locations though in relation to anything. But the bit that is interesting is that you can pay for the room with your Tesco clubcard vouchers!! Even in Europe. Might be worth a look if you can pay with vouchers

Oops, thought I'd put it, being back at work after a long summer off scrambles my brain :lmao:

Just me and Paula, will both be 29 by August.
Only 1 DCL to our name, our honeymoon on the Wonder in November 2008 after our wedding in Orlando :)

Seeing as we're only after 1 night either side of the cruise, I think 'luxury' might be an option, but up to a point (I liked the look of the Ritz Carlton and the Manderin Oriental, but 350 Euros a night is pushing it a bit ;) ).

I'm not too unfamiliar with Barcelona (was there last May on a school trip and am angling to be included in next years trip too) so may be of some help, tho I'm not as familiar with it as some places.

On that school trip in May, guess what our coach passed on the way to the hotel - yep, the Magic :) Will try and post the (grainy, old iPhone) picture I took from the coach as we sped past :)

:goodvibes

Here it is:

Hi!!!!
I haven't had time to read through the thread, but thought I'd join in the countdown. I have a hold on this cruise and will probably book it in the next day or so. I, (Karen, age 41), DH Harvey, 42, DD Leah 12 (not til next May, gulp) and DS Aaron 8 will tentatively be in a verandah cabin cat 5C. Looks like our cabin would be 6614 but I am researching this to see if we want to change.

We have cruised many times before but none with DCL and have never cruised in Europe. I am busy planning a preXmas trip to Disney World as well. I am going to try not to get too sucked into the cruise planning just yet. I can be quite obsessive and don't want to go overboard too early!

I don't usually plan trips this far in advance but we are traveling with another family who live overseas and I wanted to make sure there are no glitches. I am curious about whether there will be any price drops but am satisfied right now with $300 OBC. Now just trying to find good airfare to BCN from Charlotte! We probably have enough points for 2 or 3 tickets on USAir- I need to look into that further.

I look forward to chatting with you all!

Karen

:worship: Oh please do, please do!!! I had to take a look at the deck plan - 6614 is a connecting cabin to 6612 so I assume your friends are booking that one?! (nosey thing aren't I?!) Actually, I just wanted to see where 6614 was in relationship to us - we are now booked in 6108 which is also a 5C and is pretty much directly across the ship on the other side!! And I think Kelly is booked in the next room down from us!! They had a pretty big price cut in June so I don't know if we can expect more or not. It WOULD be nice but I am not going to hold my breath for one. We actually bumped up from a Cat 10A to the balcony when they cut the prices in June. The only thing I would say to you about that location is that it is above the theater...so I would look for a stateroom report (see link in header above) or you might want to study the deck plans & see about moving either to the other side of the ship or a little more forward or aft. If there's nothing negative in the stateroom reports then you're probably fine there!:thumbsup2

Charlotte huh? Talk to Jeff (jd99) about US Air! (Or go read his trip report!):rolleyes1 I am hoping to book 2 out of our 3 tix with credit card miles...but I neeeeeed the prices to drop a bit yet in order to cover 2 of us. Trying to wait it out!!

Keep us posted!! Hope you do join us!! (Can you tell I'm excited to gain a new peep!?) :rotfl: Hope you make it official soon!!
