August 12, 2006-DIS DREAMS DO COME TRUE-Magical Western Cruise

Oh man, I wish we were leaving today instead of a week from now. :wizard:

The weather in California this summer is off the charts. Last week we saw triple-digits and today it's drizzling. I've lived here all my life and seriously don't remember the last time it rained in August :umbrella:

I ordered the gift baskets from The Perfect Gift yesterday. I spoke with Nona, who was very nice and so helpful with her suggestions. The boys will be so surprised when they see them.

Have a great day everyone.

Pam

DH and I have been discussing travel money and haven't decided what form we should bring ie., traveler's cheques, cash, etc. Without getting personal information, does anyone have an opinion on this?? Maybe previous cruisers could help me out :confused3

Thanks!
Pam

We don't anticipate spending much money off ship, so everything is pretty much going to be on the room key. You can check at guest services as to your balance. We keep all the receipts, you can guarantee I'll have "forgotten" a purchase, so at least if I have the receipt I can see for sure. I know for tips the servers and stateroom attendants prefer cash, but you can put that on you card too. Don't forget your change for the laundry machines if you need it.

Generally when we travel we don't use travellers cheque's much anymore. We used to use them when travelling to USA, as most places seemed to take them. Now as we are already in US, we do tend to rely on credit cards and ATM's. Make sure your credit card company knows you are travelling abroad (I think this was mentioned before) just in case you need to use that card.

By the way cash is not used onboard. Everything is charged to your room key. You can tip using cash, but gift shops and bars do not take cash. If you like to pay as you go with cash, you can arrange to do that by going to guest services. You are able to put any amount of cash down on your room key, you will get a refund for what isn't spent, conversely if you run out they will tell you too!

Thanks Louise. I think we'll pre-pay with cash so we don't come home to a large bill :rotfl2: . It's a great idea.

Pam I disagree I can wait 1- week. I've been waiting a long while as it is. I enjoy the anticipation and build-up and research and posts, passporter, Magical cruise guide, etc , etc. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Its been in the 100's all week here in MD which is a little much :furious: but I like the summer. :thumbsup2 Remember next week we start vacation, there's only 1 start. Once we start it will go buy in a flash :sad2: and 2 weeks we will be sitting here reading about other people who are about to go on vacation :sad2: :sad2: and we might not even have a countdown clock going for our next vacation :sad2: . So I for one can wait and even a little longer would be nice because its going to be over tooooo soon : :sad2:

Ok.. I posted this message once already, but I guess my internet hick-up'ed or I was day dreaming about our cruise because it didnt post. So here goes again.. if it at some point turns up in cyber land.. ignore the double post.. :confused3

Hazel, A power strip is an extension cord of sorts. The strip is a long bar that has about 6 outlets in it. If you need to re-charge any batteries, cell phones, etc., this will be necessary. The over-the-door shoe hangers are for organizing small items so you don't have a lot of clutter laying around. This was a tip I read in a book. DCL does have basket orders available, but a lot of cruisers have used Shirley. I'm hoping to place an order with them as well. Hope this helps you out. Have a great night! Pam

Thanks Pam for your reply. I feel really stupid about the power strip... :rotfl2: I know what it is, I guess my brain has gone on vacation early. I dont know what I was thinking when I asked. But you are right.. I probably should go get one.. and I thought all my shopping was done... :sad2: :sad2:

Every time I think I have it all sorted out I remember something that I forgot to put on my list and have to run back out. I need to go to the store now and get a small thread and needle kit, a "power strip" :p , some safty pins, a shoe door thingy... and I think thats it... for now.. :rotfl2:

Grats to all those who have already left. I wish I was there with you now. But one more week and I will be road bound. Friday (11th) to be exact. :cheer2:

Oh.. haha.. I see why it didnt post the first time... (must learn to read at some point)... I guess when I copied and pasted your post Pam I also coppied the url to Shirley and I cant post url's until I have posted more posts... :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Sheww.. that was a tongue twister...

Its been in the 100's all week here in MD which is a little much but I like the summer.

zzzJohnzzz... I know what you mean. Its been hot hot hot here as well. We have the ac on full blast and it still is a bit warm in the house. The upstairs gets really hot during the day time. We have one bedroom we have converted into an office so the computers (and we have 4) run all the time. The heat off them alone makes the room hot :badpc: ... So I grab my daughter and we run downstairs to the pool to cool off.. but we have to watch out for sunburn... blisters are not cool

I like you know that the vacation will be over with way to soon. Its seems thats the way the good times go ... :sad2: :sad2:

Good Morning!!!! :sunny:

One week from today!!!!!!!!!!!!! :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :cool1: :woohoo:

Who wants to do the seven day dance with me? :woohoo: :teeth:

We're dancing in our house

Time to head out and finish up the last of the shopping before the cruise. DD still "needs" some things to wear and DS never did get his tux shoes shipped so we need to find something for him as well.

I've been reviewing/prepping all the papers for the trip: airline reservations; hotel; cruise docs; rental car; DIS meetup schedule. Sheesh, that's a lot of papers, lol.

oHey guys not only 7 days away but if you go to Kroozecams.com goto United States then pick Port Canaveral you can see the front end of the Magic and it is currently picking up the last group of people who are going to sleep in oour beds before we do!!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Sugarplums if you want to talk about hot ask my DW, I'm at the 3/4point in a 3 year :guilty: renovation of half the upstairs into a Master Bath. Open to the attic right now means its brutal in the summer and really nippy in the winter. On second thought don't ask DW we are on vacation :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

First Mickey just like you "I love to crack myself up" but that board was really bad. I'm working today but dancing in spirit have to pick up stuff for trip today and remembered I had better pick up a 20th anniverasry something for DW for putting up with me for 20yrs (well i don't have enough money to cover that) but I'll find something.

I agree. As a teacher I see all the Back to School stuff and I realize that it will all be over too soon. We are the only ones left of our friends who haven't had their vacations yet, and they are so jealous. Vacation seems a distant memory for them and it was only in June or July. So, I am torn as well, but still looking forward to meeting all of you.
Michelle

Good Morning Everyone

Alright, alright, I'll try not to wish my life away :rotfl: . Anticipation is very cool that it's hard to contain my excitement :cheer2: .

I'll dance with you Donna/Firstmickey  . BTW, if you can't visit the site tomorrow, have a great birthday!!

Thanks for sharing the website John.

Here's to last minute shopping this weekend :)

Have a great day!

Pam

Thanks Pam! :teeth:

And Michelle, I know what you mean about back to school....we go back the Wednesday after we get home from the cruise! It just seems to early! I kept telling the kids all summer that every time they wished we were on the cruise that they were wishing their summer away!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Yeah.. I stay away from "tricky" or "complain" questions when on vacation. Somehow it seems to sour the mood. Dont have a clue why that is ?!? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
