you guys have been great....thanks for your help. Spoke with ticket specialist at MDE to ask about upgrading and guess what? Even though a CM the day before told me the ticket was valid, not expiring until 2030- IT IS NOT VALID! For some reason it was never deleted off my MDE, so what I thought was a comp for our problem that trip was nothing!!
I now bought his ticket from Parksavers for the trip and the problem is now null and void......like the mysterious comp ticket!

If you still have the paper comp ticket, you could take it with you and speak with guest services at one of the parks. If it was a mistake on WDW's part, they are really good about making it right, IMHO. I have some comp tickets and mine are definitely good thru 2029. I just used one that was 6 years old on our last trip.

Buying a 7 day ticket and saving the 5 day ticket for another might be the best option. I don't think you'll be able to upgrade a promotional ticket Is it already in his name? If not, you might be able to switch around for someone who has less interest or is on a different arrival/departure schedule.

Can't do that. Tickets get encoded with your fingerprint upon first entry.
