I'm not even sure where to post this. Good friend's son just graduated from college with a degree in voice performance. He is going to New York City on Monday to audition to perform on Disney Cruise Line. Great kid. Doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, no piercings, no tatoos (I've heard it's good to have the "Disney look"); really the only drawback I can see is that he doesn't really get Disney. Never been, doesn't know etc. Does anyone out there have any suggestions or intel on this process?? I'm at a loss on what to advise him. Thanks in advance.

It may help if he looks at the Disney Cruise line website site and looks over the descriptions of the various live entertainment, stage shows onboard. It always helps to have some knowledge of a company before going for a job.

Have him also look at the www.dcljobs.com website...it gives an idea on shipboard life for the crew and he can see if it is something he may want to do...

Best of luck to him.

When DD was at a dance workshop earlier this year one of the instructors there use to dance at the castle show. We talked to him during the break and DD asked him how he got into working at WDW and that she wants to dance on the ships one day. He told her to google for Disney auditions. It is a seperate company that hires them. You will find a list of where auditions are held and exactly what they are looking for. This particular site includes DCL auditions.

We have a family friend, whose daughter has auditioned twice for DCL and unfortunately hasn't made it either time. She has a beautiful voice but it is more opera style then Disney. I think it's best to maybe youtube some DCL performances to see what shows and the characters are in the show. I believe they do have specific types they are looking for (thinking of the characters in the shows (like rhonda rivers in golden Mickeys, Genie/Hades for Believe and Villians etc). Studying the performances should give him a better understanding of what they are looking for.

While it's great that he has the Disney Look going on it still is an audition for specific roles. Goodluck to him!

The website I posted does give the specifics for each audition they are holding down to height requirements for each role that is being cast at the audition. Click on the audition and it will take you to the specific information. The audition you mention in NY is listed too.

During a Q&A session on the PC cruise in Jan, someone asked what it takes to be a member of the show team. The biggest driver is that the team is necessary small, so the performers need to be multi-talented: Act, Sing, and Dance (and some also have unique talents - juggling, gymnastics, and even a bit of standup comedy). I would think any audition would try to show as broad and balanced capability as possible.

What about the contracted entertainment (comics/magicians/etc)?

How does one apply to be on the call list for the on-demand entertainment?

These CM's often wear mutliple hats and not just stictly on the stage. I had a friend on the Magic on the last WBTA. He played a part in each of the shows, was one of the singers on the special night they had of Disney songs, etc.

We also saw him mulitple times as a handler for a Disney character during the photography sessions and he was our muster captain!

They keep them VERY busy.
