Auditioning to be a face character

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I kind of see Maleficent in you. Maybe it's the eyebrows. I personally would LOVE to be a villain...Cruella, MAleficent etc. I think they get to have the most fun with the guests (and scare kids...what could be better?).

Hahahahahahah the eyebrows?! Alas, I am far too short to be Maleficent! (She *is* my favorite villain though!)

I think it would be fun to be one of the villains. There's always the evil stepmother and stepsisters. You're certainly far prettier than the stepsisters in the movie, but from the pictures I've seen, so are the ladies who play their parts.

I seem to remember that friends of Maleficent are actually males in general. I know it's like that for friends of the Queen of Hearts, because of the height thing, but I'm 90% certain it's that way for Maleficent as well.

No. Friends of Maleficent are taller and are sometimes also friends of Lady Tremaine and the Evil Queen.

i do think the OP is a little too short to be one of the above mentioned villains though.

i see Anastasia or Drizella. and i think most of their friends are really too pretty to be "ugly" stepsisters. (i just didn't want you to take that the wrong way--they're all really pretty girls with garish make-up.)

I see definate Fairy material.

ooh. Vidia or Rosetta.

OP, just know that they are pretty specific with what they want. for example, Snow White usually has a more round face when compared to other princesses.

i think you're adorable though and certainly prettier than a lot of the princesses i've seen. of course, i'd want to be a villain because i think they're more fun. the stepsisters are a hoot.

You know, you've hit on something that I have wondered. What's up with some of the princesses? I've seen some beautiful girls, but I've also seen some that were questionable. Case in point: this Cinderella.

I'm on the far-right in the purple shirt. Not sure how clearly you can see her face here. But I remember going to eat at Cinderella's Royal Table and meeting her and thinking, "Hmm ... this is ... an interesting choice."

If I remember correctly, you really just stand there and smile, then they might ask you to act surprised or act like something's funny - easy audition. And if you aren't accepted, it isn't because you aren't good enough... probably just because you don't look like a character.

It's more than that and prepare to have thick skin. They are extremely honest with face character auditions and if you have a flaw they will point it out. There's a movement portion with a routine as well. If you make it far you'll be there for quite a chunk of the day, and you can only audition once every 6 months.

If its something you really want to do, give it a shot! Just know that sometimes it takes a few auditions.

Here's the deal. In the 1st round of face character auditions you just stand there. It is like a police line up. Face straight, turn left, turn right...on occasion they may have someone step forward. Then you are dismissed. The overwhelming majority of people do not make it though the first round. They are looking for VERY specific things. I have no clue what those are.

When I worked in entertainment and characters there was one Jasmine that in street clothes you would NEVER guess looked anything like Jasmine. There wasn't ever anyone who I knew that played a face character that it was obvious out of costume who her character was.

If you make it past the first round your acting background will come in handy however the "look" is the most important part. If i remember correctly (and things COULD have changed) later audition rounds are costume tests and then voice/acting/mannerisms.

Best of luck to you.

ETA - I went to a closed audition, every one I auditioned with was already in fur so I missed the movement part. In a general audition, I'm sure RayaniFoxmur is correct in that you'll have to do the regular character audition and make it into the general talent pool.

I was thinking you would be a good Mary Poppins.

Not the two I've run into...very, very female. This is probably going to be what my dd is relegated to if/when she makes it to WDW. She is 5'11...she would make a terrrific Ariel or Merida, (redhead, blue eyes), but sadly, way too tall.
And her best friend is also a princess wanna-be..but she's about 4'11", so she's going to be hard pressed as well.

I only say this because I know a friend of the Queen of Hearts, and he's been warned he may be pulled for Maleficent if times get hard. They do wonders with make-up! ;) He was pulled to became friends with the Queen because they were short on people as well. :lmao: But I could see how Maleficent would preferably be women, as she's a face character.

OP, I could see a fairy! Especially since you said you were on the shorter side of things (I think you did anyways.) Also, I agree with the poster for Mary Poppins, I didn't see it at first, but now that its out there it seems so obvious.:goodvibes

If you don't get anything, don't be too disappointed though, they are weirdly picky. I've seen the most perfect Snow White's get turned away in the first line up because she had a pimple, while someone who looks nothing like her, with huge amounts of acne all over, get hired for it.

My DD (17) has been stuck at 5'3" for years. When she went in for her physical a month or so ago, they measured her at 5'4". She lit up and exclaimed, "I can finally be a Disney princess." The nurse looked at her like she was nuts. :lmao:

My daughter could easily pass for Rapunzel and we are only an hour from Disney so maybe someday her dream will come true. princess:

On the thread I linked earlier, many people were complaining that when they were measured at their auditions, they lost 2 inches. Apparently their measuring isn't consistent.

That's very true, but sometimes it works to their advantage, a few of my friends were measured up. Two of my friends were measure exactly the same, both are friends with Goofy, but when they stand next to each other with no shoes, even standing straight up, there's a good 2 inch difference. :lmao:

There's a 2" range for fur characters. Generally you can't tell when they're in full costume.

As much as you might look like one character, they're really looking for certain characteristics. Many of the princesses I talked to said they were casted for more than one, but generally they only played one because of their bid.

I heard the dance part was pretty hard if you have two left feet. You have like 10 minutes to learn and repeat some dance steps.

There's other face characters, that are not princesses. There's face people in the parades and stage shows. Although there's two different unions under "entertainment".

They hired a princess with massive amounts of acne and turned away one for a single blemish?! Bizarre.

If they knock me down to 5'1, I will be so mad, hahaha. It took me so long to even get to 5'3.5"!

really, I would have swore I have seen princess a little taller then I'm. Guess it just the shoes

It has to be because we were actually checking out the princess heights (my DD wants to be friends with a princess but has been told she is too short by her friends) and I actually had people think she was related to Belle when we got the pictures back, plus she was about the same height (I think it was Ariel that had some high heeled shoes on at breakfast because DD made a point to check it out!). Although I thought we were the only weird ones that were checking out heights just to see if she was truly too short.
