Audible membership for book club - worth it?

I just joined a book club & we are reading a book a month. Unfortunately because of my work & commuting schedule I don't have a lot of time for "fun" reading. I do, however, download things like podcasts to my iPhone & listen while I drive, or do chores around the house.

I'm thinking about getting an audible membership for the book club books. Since it is a one book a month credit that should work well for the book club, assuming the books we pick are available as audiobooks. Also, even at $14 a month a I think it is still cheaper overall to use audible than buy the audiobooks online, which are usually about $20-$30 each at audio versions.

I've checked my local library but they don't have a great selection of audiobooks.

I am just looking for some tips as to where audible would really be worthwhile in my situation, or whether the pricing may get out of control. I read you can cancel pretty easily, and they have an offer now where the first three months are $7.95 so I guess I could try it for a little while & cancel before the price increase if I find I can't get the books I need for book club.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

I know you said you checked your library, but did you check their digital content? My library has many downloadable audio books on their website.

I love audible! I get the platinum annual membership....which give me 24 credits. Most books are one credit. I go through about two of those memberships a year and have a few hundred books in my library. I love it!

I also have the platinum membership plan. Two book credits per month and discounts on other purchases. I have been doing it for years now and have quite a library of books. I love that I can carry my books with me where ever I go.

I had audible. Just canceled today, in fact, because I started back reading on my kindle. But when I was listening on my phone I really enjoyed it. Loved the $7.95 three month price, but when it jumped to $14.95 I canceled.

Tip: when the price jumps up after three months, go online and attempt to cancel. The site will ask if you wish to renew at a lower price of $9.95 for a year. Always nice to save a few bucks.

Also, they shot me emails while I was a member, giving me discounts on additional audiobooks for, like, $4.95 or around that price.

All in all, it was a nice service. I liked it.

I love Audible -the only way I "read" now is to listen to a book on my I-phone.
I do the platinum as well. It is worth it to me. I really enjoy it

Like PP mentioned they do specials frequently. Right now they have some books that are 4.95 each. If the price is less than 10 dollars -I don't use a credit I just buy it with my CC that is on file.

Make sure that the kind of books that your BC reads are on there. If you book club does mostly popular literary fiction you should be fine.

Kermit -if you have kids in your life -there are loads of family/childrens books that are very well done. They are great for car trips and they make kids smart!

Just signed up for the membership. I'm fine with paying the intro rate of $7.95 for three months, but I'm not sure how excited I'll be it goes up to $14.95.

I wish they would offer that $100 towards any listening device again! I should have done it when they offered it.

I've been an audible member for 4-5 years now, and I love it so much. I listen to books at work when I'm working on something that doesn't need 100% of my concentration, in the car, while working out. Yeah, $15 a month is high, but my library also doesn't have nearly the selection that audible does, so it's worth it to me.
