Audible.com Membership

Does anyone have one? I thought I'd like to listen to audio books so I joined, and I have a couple of questions.

Can I share my account with my daughter? If so, can we both download the same book? She lives in another state and would probably use her own Ipod - we don't share an Itunes account.

Any recommendations? What's fun to listen to - not too "deep" - in the car or on the treadmill?

Once you purchase a book it is downloaded to your computer (in my case to the itunes folder.) I think that after that it can be added to more than 1 ipod.

I usually read the "literary fiction" types of books - at least that's how they are classified on the Kindle website. Water for Elephants, The 13th Tale, The Secret Life of Bees, etc. Also, I love biographies and memoirs - not political, but entertainment, quirky life stories, etc.

I've had an audible account for about 10 years now. You can download a book forever.

In that decade I have gone through more then 3 computers and countless devices, but it has never been a problem to get my counter reset.

For "easy listening" I like the Agatha Christie books, Jane Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series (even funnier when listened to than read), and M.C. Beaton's Death of a xxxx series with Hamish Macbeth.

I've listened to books like Secret Life of Bees and The Curious Incident in the Dog in the Night-time - books that I most likely would never have bought in hardback.

I now use an ipod, but used mp3 players for years because they are so much cheaper. When I first got my audible account I had to buy the "OTIS" that they sold to play the books. If you do use an mp3 player - make sure that it supports the "audible" format because a whole lot of them do not.

Another one of the reasons that I used an mp3 player for so long was that I did a lot of international travel and wanted to be able to use batteries and not have a problem with trying to charge an ipod in another country where it was likely to get fried even with an adapter.

I just listened to "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins it is a Young Adult book -but I really liked it.

Audible has all the Jane Austen Books. Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice are my favs.

Often If I am not sure about an Audible book -I will go to Amazon and read the reviews -they usually have much more about the books.
Also I listen to the little audio sample -there are a few narrators that I really like and occasionally I will run across one I can't stand

I have been listing to the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. I love them.

I can't wait to hear your reviews on your audio book experiences.

I usually listen to inspiring audio lectures, not books. Examples: Wayne Dyer, Marianne Williamson, Louise Hay. I find I retain info better if I hear it a few times. It goes to different parts of the brain than reading it does. Kind of like the way people can easily memorize song lyrics. Or, if you get in a fight with your spouse or S.O. you can easily remember the whole conversation.

Remember to check out your local library's online downloads. They don't have the same restrictions for downloading audio books as Kindle does for eBooks. Some authors/publishers will even let you burn a copy of the audio book to CD to keep.

No, my Kindle love affair is alive and well. But I also do a great deal of needlework and I am tired of watching junk television. I've seen everything on the Travel Channel and HGTV at least a dozen times, and I'm sick of daytime "news".

So I'm going to try to listen to "books on tape" as we used to call them back in the day. I'll let you know how it goes!!!!

I've had an Audible.com account for years now. Audio books have been such a blessing since my eyes aren't what they once were (I'm only 40 but I can only read for a few minutes at a time anymore).

I'm VERY much enjoying the Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris. The lady who reads the books is incredible and does one heck of a Sookie Stackhouse.
