Those who have done the auctions on the boat (7 day Magic live auctions)...do you find the stated values to be accurate?

Here's the scenario: We were on the first mexico cruise...knew about the chaos surrounding the panama pins...the framed artist proofs and map of the panama pins were held back from auction on the panama cruise b/c they didn't want a brawl. Well, the huge set came up for auction on our cruise and no one bid, so we did...and won! According to the auction folks, this set is only one of two (I am guessing the other will go on the opposite panama cruise) and they figured to sell it at 5 digits (not what we got it at).

How do you get something like this appraised or valued?

TIA

Collectables and artist proofs are difficult to appraise. Their estimated value is arrived at by analyzing what they or similar items have sold for in the past. That is usually how an auctioneer or auction house arrives at an estimated value. It would take a bit of research and talking to experts in the Pin Trading Community to possibly come up with a good estimate.

Now that being said I don't know anything about the auctioneers or auction staff on the cruise. Do you know if this was an actual independent auction company, disney cruise line staff or? They could be great at providing accurate values because of their experience working on the ship OR they could be bias in their estimated values because they are DCL employees.

If you want you could contact some of the large Disney Pin Trading Websites. They might have info on current values and might even be able to help you out with an appraisal.

Yes it is an independent auction company that disney brings on the ship. Park West. They have all different kinds of art, all prices as well as they do disney memorabilia. Lots of fun.
