If you put a bid on something and it isn't the 'reserved price' is there any way you could still get it??
Why wouldn't the reserve price be the minimal amount???
I put a bid on a game for $2.95 and the reserve is $12.95...
Or is this something completely up to the seller??

I presume you're talking about eBay?

Hubby is an eBay expert, I know a little bit.

He explained that when a seller sets a reserve price, the reserve must be met before anyone can win the auction.

For example, if the reserve is $12.95, and the bid ends with the highest bid being $12.50, nobody wins.

At this point, you can email the seller directly and make an offer outside of eBay, and it's totally acceptable practice.

Good luck!

Cool..Thanks..
I put a bid on something else and I wanted to retract it but my bid wasn't going to meet the reserved price, I was looking for a game, and then seen it was for N64 & not game cube...
Tried sending message to the seller, but got no response, so I won't worry about it now since the reserve price won't be met..

Nope, if you don't meet the reserve then you don't have to pay. Sometimes I have bid on something and the lowest price I bid was close to the reserve so the seller has offered it to me for my bid price or either told me their reserve to see if I was interested.

On a few occasions I have emailed the seller asking for the reserve but I don't like to do that unless its something I am extremly interested in. On the few times I did, the seller told me without a problem though.

Really? I was gonna ask shep how he knew the reserve price since, it's not posted anywhere (usually). Once, I even mentioned this bidding problem to a seller ~ You'd think she would have told me so, I could've made both of us happy.

The last 2 auctions I have seen with reserve prices had them where you could see the price...:)

I've never seen an auction where the reserve price was showing. Maybe that's something new.

Some sellers post their reserve price in the "Item Description" section of the auction.

Can't remember if it was on yahoo or ebay...

It's completely up to the seller. Last week I sold a doll on ebay. I wanted 75.00 for it but realistically didn't expect it. So the auction ended and the reserve had not been met. I emailed the bidder and offered it to her at her bid price. She excepted. The only thing is since she didn't make the reserve the auction technically did not end succesfully so even though she paid quickly and I shipped same day there is no way to leave feedback.

But beware, if you go outside of Ebay and make a deal with the seller to purchase something, you are SOL if they cheat you. If it were a high value item or you can't stand to get ripped off, it may not be a good idea. Of course, that's my 2 cents worth. My wife has gone outside of Ebay many times and had no problem.
