My son has Asperger's.... He can be sensitive to noises.. I have noticed this especially with noises with a deep underlying bass to them- hard to describe but that rumbling noise almost.... We havent been to DW since he was barely 4 and did not know his dx at that time... BUT, I do remember him totally freaking at the Little Mermaid and that ride in Epcot where you ride back into the past to the dinosaurs... Although he loved the human body ride- think he had to do that around 10 times... Can anyone give me an ideas on attractions we should avoid or perhaps use earplugs on....

This is not really an answer but...make sure he is accustomed to the feel of earplugs and the process of inserting/removing them well before your vacation. My ds is also an aspie and we bought earplugs so he could enjoy seeing the Blue Angels fly...wrong!!! The ear plugs made him more uspet than the noise. He hated them, they hurt. they didn't fit, he couldn't hear anything (I almost laughed at that one.) We are currently testing ear plugs for this summers trip...so we don't have to melt down about the ear plugs instead of the noise.

My DS has a similar problem. The one I didn't think about before I took him on it was Journey into Your Imagination. He totally freaked!! There's one point where it's not only loud, but dark. It use to be such a nice ride and now it's horrible. He was clutching me and crying the whole time. Another one he had a problem with was Philharmagic. He didn't like the darkness, but the booming sound also bothered him.

I am both a sound technician and someone who is sensitive to loud noises. Unfortunately most earplugs and hearing protection earmuffs cannot eliminate sub bass (below 40 Hertz) frequencies. Sub woofers are very popular these days and emit frequencies which are felt as much as heard. :guilty:
