Attraction Intensity

i am just starting to realize I should be researching attractions more closely for our first DLR trip in March. Mistake #1 - WDW attractions with simiar names may be different than DLR. For me (early 50's), I will try anything, faster the better. DH is almost a complete opposite. Is there a site that provides a good description of an attraction and it's intensity? I was planning on Indiana Jones but it looks like it is intense. If it is just a 4 wheel drive type of experience, DH will be find. If there is a motion simulator with a movie screen, he will get ill. He is perfectly happy to wait for me but I need to try to figure out which attractions he can and cannot do. i read one description of Indiana Jones but I still cannot visuualize this attraction.

Indiana is built the same way as dinosaur in wdw. I find Indiana way better themed and not so dark. But if he can do dinosaur, then he should be fine. Pirates is better in DL than wdw, has better drops (not like splash mountain tho!), space mountain is smoother in DL. Matterhorn is fast and bumpy, no screens to make you ill though. RSR is sort of like test track, but a different theme. Again, I would think it's pretty doable for most people. Only star tours seems to make people woozy (it's the only ride with screens and movement.) soarin is the same as wdw, screens but you aren't really moving except at the beginning and end. toy story is just like wdw, it has screens but you are actively playing a game...

This list isn't quite geared for your question, but it does have ride description and a list of the elements that are included.

As the PP said, Indy Jones is closest to Dinosaur at WDW. It doesn't have a movie (unless you count the mist screen images that you might fleetingly see). You are in a vehicle that is physically moving (bouncing a lot, with sharp(ish) turns. I'd say it's closer to a 4x4 experience than a movie simulator, but it is pretty intense.

Thank you! This is very helpful!

Yes to Indiana Jones, Pirates, Splash, RSR.

No to Space, Matterhorn Star Tours. (I can't wait to experience Matterhorn so DH will wait that one out.)

Soarin' is closed durinng our trip.

Do you mind my asking...is it motion sickness your husband suffers from? I also suffer from it and take medication whenever I visit any theme park with rides. I take meclizine round the clock while I'm at DL and it REALLY helps me to be able to tolerate the rides. If that's his issue, maybe he could try taking it too?

There are some rides that I absolutely can not ride there and that is Star Tours, spinning tea cups and the swings in CA. Soaring can give me that woozy feeling but I push through it! But its down while you are there anyway. Space Mtn does give me a slight headache after I ride it too but nothing too horrible.

Enjoy your trip!

Matterhorn will be closed in March for refurb :sad1:

You will love SM at DL:thumbsup2

Have a fun trip!!

Thank you for your thoughts. Yes, it is motion sickness and he has tried meclizine with little success. He still gets ill on Soarin'. He is fine on Splash Mountain and woud never consider Space Mountain -way too thriling! I'm glad meclizine works for you and so many others!

Out of curiosity, has he tried Astro Orbitor? I ask because it looks pretty tame, but it surprisingly set off my motion sickness (Star Tours, Tea Cups, Roger Rabbit Car-Toon Spin, and Mater's Junkyard Jamboree are also no gos for me). I can do okay on Dumbo, but if it were much longer, I'd be in trouble.

This is a great book for planning. It helped me figure out which rides to go on and which I wanted to avoid when planning a trip.

The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland 2015
by Bob Sehlinger (Author), Seth Kubersky (Author), Len Testa (Author)

Best of luck with the planning, and enjoy your trip.

:thumbsup2 I was just paging down to suggest this very book!

If you can handle Space Mountain at WDW, you can definitely handle the DL version. It's a lot smoother.
