My DD, who is 13, wants a sewing machine. I'm looking for recommendations for a good, reliable, easy to use machine that costs < $200. Can anyone help us?
I purchased my daughter a machine from Sears for about 129.00 last fall. It is a Kenmore and actually not their cheapest. It seems to be good quality, just minimal features.
There are some good Kenmore machines and also some Singers out there that are pretty good. I wouldn't get in to much fancy stuff however, make sure it straight and back stitches, zigzags with some variability to that stitch and will do button holes. It should also come with a button holer foot (usually clear) and a zipper foot.
I've had one of the simplest Elna's for over 25 years and there really isn't anything I can't do with it.
