I currently have an HP notebook. It is relatively newer, but it has been running pretty sluggish lately, and it has had it's fair share of issues. I just replaced the hard drive and re-installed Windows. But, it is still running pretty slow. I am pretty sure that I will need to replace the fan shortly, which I know is a fairly inexpensive fix. I am also hoping to upgrade to Windows 7 sometime later this year, which will probably run $80-100.

In the mean time, I found this deal on a netbook. For my computing purposes, I am sure it will do just fine. About 90% of my computer time is spent surfing the web or organizing photos. I don't do a whole lot of gaming, a little bit of word processing. I still want to keep my notebook, of course.

That said, I liked my computer a lot when it was brand new and running well. I am hoping that all the repairs/upgrades will have it running optimally, and if it is running like it should be, I would really have no need for the netbook.

So, here is my question. Is this netbook a deal? Should I get it, then use my notebook when I need an actual PC until I can buy a new notebook computer. Or should I sink some money into upgrades and hope they improve the performance of the notebook?

Honestly, that price on a refurb is not that great of a deal. We paid about that for the BRAN NEW Gateway Netbook in March for my in-laws.

Netbooks are GREAT for surfing the web. MOST do not have MS Office on it, so any word processing is done is a scaled down version of MS Works. It is a VERY basic machine in my opinion, and if you only use it to browse the web and check your email, then its great for that. They have good battery life, and are easily portable.

For anything else though, I still prefer a notebook. You get a full version on Windows, and can install things as most have CD/DVD drives(netbooks dont). Sure they a pain to carry, but can do oh so much more.

But as for the price of that, no, you can find a new one for that price elsewhere

I like my netbook for class and minimal other activities. I would suggest another laptap or even a desktop/netbook combination, especially if you do a lot of picture organizing. Also keep in mind that the typical netbook hard drive is going to be relatively small, so be sure you're checking that size. I think mine is a 120GB, but that's not the norm. Also be sure that it runs Windows unless you're okay with using Linux.

I have a netbook and like other posters have mentioned it is great for surfing the web and checking emails/stuff. Netbooks are very easy to travel with. I use my laptop and desktop PC for sufficient things such as photo, file and music storage and word processing.

I think the deal on buy.com is pretty good Acers usually sell around that price a little more. My boyfriend has an Acer netbook that he uses for downtime at his job and he says the battery life is pretty good.
