Attire for PArty for the Senses

Heads Up! After reading this thread I just had to investigate. I contacted guest services and indeed they are asking no shorts at all this year! They are aware it is a change but are trying to upgrade it to a little more of a "upscale cocktail party".

Now whether they will actually bar someone with shorts from entering...??? :confused3

cdtommie - not doubting you at all, and hope it didn't come across that way.

Last year, we got the dress code spiel, as I was very unhappy with lugging myself back to EPCOT in dockers and dress shoes later in the evening. Also, at the 11/5/5 PFTS last year, we saw 1 person possibly in shorts, and 1 guy in jeans and a white ball cap, and that was it. Everyone else was pants, slacks, skirts, and nicer. Believe me, I paid attention, because I was a bit toasty myself until we got inside the coolness of the building. I paid attention early on, that is, until about the 8th wine station.....

This year, I called and got that same blasted 'no shorts' spiel, as first words of the description of the 'resort smart casual' code. But, the CM couldn't give me that dress code until she was about to book the event for me. Unless someone at WDW has a weird sense of humor and is randomly pranking us, then I have to believe that the dress code mentioned to several of us who have called was in the system, and correct. Too many people with the same information from the same source. But, CM's not giving out full information, or not finding it, can happen just as easily.
Note: The dress code description came at about the same point in the process where they are just about to give you your confirmation number when you make regular ADR's, i.e. like for the California Grill or something.
My description was given near the end of the reservation process.

Robert P - I got the same information at the same point in the conversation. I wrote down exactly what was being said to me, because dh was next to me reading what I wrote in case he thought of a question (this is our first time at POS, so we weren't exactly sure what to expect.) She specifically said, "no shorts, bathing suits, halter tops..."

I will wear a simple summer dress just because I would hate to feel out of place. I wouldn't be able to relax. That's just my own insecurities! Would they actually turn people away?

Sounds like long pants it is this year...saw lots of people in shorts at the two October PFTS I attended last year (it was very hot/humid out...I brought long pants with me but it was 93 degrees one Sat at 5PM and raining like hell and so humid the next...and with that walk from the BW - hope they push the AC up a bit this year). I'll save the shorts for our Jiko's, AP and FF dinners I guess.

k5thbeatle - thank you for calling!!

Momof6 - see the shrug at the bottom of k5thbeatle's post? Well that's the answer. Who knows?? Could they, certainly. Would they, maybe??

IMHO - (getting out my crystal ball here) - PFTS, with the large price jump this year, is indeed moving towards becoming a more upscale event, if for no other reason that to justify the new price.
Could it eventually become like Victoria & Albert's, with a set attire requirement and actual enforcement, yes. But I don't think that will happen all at once.
(And, while I am okay with the loaner jacket available at V&A's, I don't hold out much hope in them providing loaner Dockers for PFTS)... :rotfl2:

oh yes, we are all a little skeptical!! I will say it was hot for us, and I had intended to go back to change, it just wasnt happening, and it was our first Party - so I couldnt comprehend people would get dressed and come in just for this - surely most of the attendees would be like me, walk the park, and then come to the Party - or can you actually sit outside to the Eat to the Beat concert in the sweltering heat in slacks?? THEN the party??

I was wrong!! I just couldnt believe how out of place *I* felt in shorts!! So this year, I know better and I will plan better!!

Not sure I agree or disagree with the change?

Unlike others have noted this PFTS veteran would say that it was about 50-50 as far as shorts to pants.

If the weather does get hot I think it may be a little unpleasant for guests to watch the ETTBC and then trek over for the food part? Maybe a bit too inconvenient and uncomfortable of a request for their guests?

I guess we'll see what transpires! :wizard:
