Should we be planning to bring heavier/longer clothing for the hurricane?
What should we expect? Will it be windier than usual?
Won't let hurricane EDrnieto ruin my trip to the World! :thumbsup2 :woohoo: Almost there.... :cheer2:

There are four of us, and we packed 8 ponchos. Done and done! Even if it's windy, it shouldn't be cold.

I hope you have a wonderful trip! When are you going?

We leave NC Thursday Morning and arrive at the World around 4pm.

Hope you have a safe trip! We depart NYC LGA Wed 8:05am

It all depends on where Ernesto comes aground. It will certainly be wet and windy the day of the hurricane, even if it just hugs the coast as currently expected. You won't need heavier clothing, but you will want some kind of raingear. Make sure that you have snacks and drinks in your room. I don't know if the Swolphin will let you wander or if you will be stuck in your room. We were at Pop Century for Charley.

Probably not as cold, but you can see that the highs dropped to the mid-60's for Wilma: http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KMCO/1972/10/23/PlannerHistory.html?dayend=26&monthend=10&yearend=1972&req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA

That was due to a cold front that came from the north, that actually was part of the reason Wilma came in where she did. We were amazed at how quickly the temp. drop.

Here in Boca, it appears the temps will only drop a few degrees during/right after Ernesto.

But after he finally gets through it will be HOT!!! After a hurricane it is probably the hottest time of the year here in NC.

If you plan to be out a night, then heavier clothing would be good thing to have -- although jeans, a shirt (or 2) and a sweatshirt or pulllover might be all you need. If it is very windy (and it might be), something to cover your head would help. The lows were in the upper 40's after Wilma.

DITTO, like Evil Queen mentioned, Wilma was a whole different animal. It hit at the end of October and the reason it hit Florida was because a VERY strong cold front steered it right into the state. (the cold fronts start making their way through FL around this time of year-not in August). Believe me that won't happen with Ernesto-it's still summer here. You might see 70s but definitely not the temps that came after Wilma (we should be so lucky to have those temps after Ernesto hits-especially if we lose electricity).

Ernesto is going to be a big rain and wind event. I wouldn't be walking the parks in that, but that's me. With rain blowing sideways into my face like sand making it tough to see is definitely not fun, I'd definitely choose something inside on Wednesday. Tropical storms are much different than the typical afternoon FL rainstorms. Many rides will probably close down in the parks if there are stong winds. It's possible though that there may be on/off squalls but I'd have a "back-up" plan for Wed. if possible. It would be a good idea to have a lightweight jacket and some long pants if you plan to wear a poncho as you'll be pretty wet anyway and if you're in and out of A/C, that'll make it feel colder.

Actually, after Wilma anyways, it was fantastic. The humidity dropped way down and we were treated to some wonderful weather... But, no doubt, you can't count on that.

Ahh... I see now that Wilma wasn't typical. I'll defer to the Florida experts on this.

I just went to Wal-Mart and bought my ponchos! We leave Atlanta Wednesday, should hit Orlando around 10 that night.

I am definitely not letting the impending weather ruin my excitement! I can not wait for this trip....rain or no rain...wind or no wind!!

Just be prepared for possible delays that may have backed up from earlier in the day. Seems if it goes up the state it should be in or around Orlando most of Wed. but by the time you leave it should be too, however expect to be delayed because of flights that may not have been able to get in/out earlier in the day. But, the good thing is, you should arrive after Ernesto exits. As long as the power stays on in most places, the parks should be pretty empty until the weekend. Have fun!!

Here's a link to the ten day forecast. http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/golf/tenday/USFL0372?from=36hr_fcst10DayLink_gol
Trust me, it won't be cold. Not by any stretch of the imagination. What will happen is if it comesthrough the Orlando area you may find the humidity will go down and the air will be drier (it's still rainy season here). The Weather Channel is on resort TV with local weatherandtraffic updates. They work directly with the National Hurricane Center and are pretty reliable.

Everyone have a great trip!!! :sunny:

I loved that question from the OP... will it be windier than normal!?! :rotfl2: I'm not picking on you but it is a hurricane! After 7 in the past 2 years we need something to laugh about so thank you! Have a great trip!

LOL I guess it depends on where you're from. I don't consider 60 to be anything close to col. That's still shorts weather for us.

Just prepare for STRONG winds and rain. There should be no temperature change this time of the year. I don't think Orlando would get much since it's such a weak storm with a slight chance of turning into a category 1. I'm no meteorologist but just speaking from the experience of all the hurricanes we go through here in Miami. :thumbsup2

Edit: By the way!!! Have a great trip!! :cool1:

You are going to be driving THROUGH the storm. Not a good thing. You should rethink your driving plans.

I'm clueless on what clothes to bring or what weather to expect. Will there still be an increase in wind a week from now? How long might there be a change in weather? From what I heard, chances are in Sept you should expect rain anyway, but it seems like the chances just increased! We were hoping for a dry spell!!

BTW, what is it like in Miami right now? I called Delta to try and reschedule as we arrive tomorrow 11am, and they said all appears ok for flights to Orlando, they are just rescheduling flights in on/water ex, Miami Beach, Tampa Airports, et. Do you think I need to worry? Amost there...I think...Now Hurricane Ernie ~ Go AWAY!!! :cool1:
