Attire for 2 1/2 year Old

My DS is 2 1/2. I've read that shorts, etc. are not accepted attire for dinner. What do you dress your young children in for dinner? I'm not cheap, but I really don't want to spend the money for slacks for my little man when I know he won't wear them again. I do plan on getting him a nice outfit for the formal/semi formal nights. Thanks!

Just have him be comfortable. He will be fine in shorts and nice polo type shirt.

I agree with thewog, in toddlers i don't think anyone will mind, or cotton pants and a polo shirt is just as smart. But if i recall from when mine was 2 as long as he was clean and being good no one seemed to mind what he wore.
