Thinking about getting a Go Pro video camera for our next trip. Anyone have any experience with these at the parks? Any tips and tricks to use?

Yes. I take mine every time. I use it specifically to capture video of the kids behind me. Yes, i look like a geek with the camera strapped to my head (backwards), but the wide angle view and the cameras ability to capture steller video while pulling "g's" on some of the rollercoasters, even my canon 5d mark II cant keep up with it.

I wished I had purchased one before we went earlier this month. I was extremely jealous of the couple sitting a row over from us on the plane home - they were watching their GoPro Disney videos on an ipad during the flight. I'll have one next time!

Tbiafore - great video!!! Thanks for sharing - I've been considering a Go Pro as well. This is exactly the type of footage I'm looking to capture.

Furthermore, here is a video I shot. All the rollercoaster video was done with a gopro so you can see the wide angle view and umage quality, even while pulling "g's".

What version of a GoPro camera do you have? Would you recommend another one in particular if you had to purchase it again?

DS is bringing his(and extra battery) for our quick trip over Labor Day~he also has the Hero 3 Black. He'll prob have it propped on his jeep the whole way down lol. They're fun to have:goodvibes

Our BIL brought his everywhere! (Even on their shark scuba dive in Nassau) but he also brought it to the parks. It didn't seem nearly as cumbersome as a typical video camera.

The problem with my camera now is that when I am taking video while walking it comes out too shaky. Does the Go Pro handle this issue better when it's strapped to your chest?

Go Pro is designed to remove all the shakiness, regardless of whether you carry it, hold it, or mount it.

Right?

My BIL had really funny videos of them just driving in the car. Funny because it took all the bumps out, so it looked like a scene from a cheesy TV show where the people are not driving, just the background is moving, since the car isn't really moving.

Just wanted to say what a great video. You all looked to have a great time from the youngest on up. And you even hit alot of the must do's not only for rides but for eating. I hope you can all do it again.

Great video! I've been eyeing them for awhile. A rep is at the PX here through the weekend. I could get one for almost 30% off retail plus no sales tax. It's very tempting, especially now that I've seen your video! :)

WOW!! Thanks SO much for sharing that!! I just can't imagine how much time you put into editing that, but it was certainly worth it :)

Can I ask--did you use your GoPro for the stills too? And what resolution were you shooting video at? Did you take a laptop to offload your cards during your trip?

For those who don't have one (yet...) I ask all those questions because you can take massively large files and cause yourself lots of issues with handling them (speaking for myself, that is). It took lots of work to get my hours of ski vids compiled and compressed into two DVDs (whereas this GENIUS got an entire Disney trip into a FUN 4 minutes!!).

I recommend anyone buy a couple extra cards and an extra battery. I also have the waterproof case (but beware--you'll need the external mic with it if you want any sound). I found the chest strap to be extremely comfortable. Also have a headstrap that you can just slap on your head of over a hat, not to be confused with the helmet mount. Like PP, I also have the Hero3 Black, which is the only one with any real low-light capability (per the mfg and word of mouth).

Didn't take mine last trip as we only did one park day, but I am soooooooo taking it next time! Thanks again for sharing and inspiring me to compile some of our trips into something that will let us really relive these moments, instead of just disjointed pics and bits of video. :)

i'm just not going to be able to get the Black, its going to be a stretch to get the Silver.

will it work as well?

I have the GoPro 2 and it worked great. Went on all the rides with it and had no problem....except looking a little weird with a camera attached to my head. I did keep the waterproof case on, so they sound wasn't so great, but the picture is!

I uploaded my videos to the computer at the end of the day just incase. But I recommend extra cards and batteries.

Just a budget tip for anyone looking to get one... some Sports Authorities carry them and accessories, Every once in a while they run a 20% off coupon on a single item, or off $100 or more. We used said coupon when getting DS camera and it knocked $80 off. :thumbsup2

For those that have one or are going to be getting on and you also have an iPad, I strongly suggest getting iMovie for your iPad. The GoPro app on the iPad allows you to download all your footage using the GoPro as a wifi router.

I only used my GoPro on Splash Mountain on my last trip. I forgot my extra batteries in the hotel room. DOH!

Over the winter I used the GoPro a lot to take video's of DD skiing. Using the iPad I made a couple of great short movie recaps. Here is one:
