My DDs are pin collectors and they are wondering the best way to transport their pins to WDW. Is packing in the suitcase the only option with all the new regulations? Thanks in advance.. Belleister

We only had carryons and had our pins in there. We had no problems getting through security.

A while back, a family had their pins stolen from their luggage on their return flight. I imagine they're easy to see on an x-ray machine. I would hand carry the pins she wants to trade.

We made the mistake of packing pins in a bag that went missing on return flight.

Neither AT or homeowners would take responsibility for them...called them "collectibles":confused3

Amazingly, said bag turned up on someone's porch half-way across the company. A few things missing, the pins were intact.

We kept them in a carryon bag. I store mine on very cheap, but highly functional homemade pin boards made of craft foam sheets. The pins stick into the foam, and while you can not put the backs onto the pins, the pins stick in there so well that even with 30 to 50 pins on a board that is being held upside down, nothing falls out!

To make them.....if you are interested.....you go to any decent craft store and buy the thin craft foam sheets with adhesive on the back, that are roughly the size of a sheet of paper. Also purchase the thicker craft foam sheets without adhesive. Slowly peel the back off of the adhesive sheets and let them rest a couple of minutes, because they will be a little out of shape. Then just lay on the adhesive backed thin sheet onto one of the thicker sheets. The sheets are easy to stack and work well inside a carryon to protect your collection! It's really cheap, like less than $1 per board and the boards last for months and months, even with heavy trading out of pins. The boards can also be decorated with other craft foam design pieces, which can help turn them into some cute and colorful displays for your kid's rooms. I find that the craft foam makes the best possible backing for framing pin sets, which I usually end up putting in a shallow depth shadow box.

Ok, now you know way more about this than you may have ever wanted to know. Happy planning! Maggie

My DD9 has had one of these bags from the Disneystore.com for the last 3 trips to the world and it has worked out well as her carry on bag.
