When there is only one lane open on the highway, do NOT attempt to pass me.

When there are 3-4" chunks of ice all over the highway, do NOT ride my tail or try to pass me.

Just because I'm driving an SUV, too, don't push on my tail to make me go any faster! You're not invincible like you think you are! I am a single mom with 2 children sitting at home. I don't give a crap if you're in a hurry. I'm taking my time b/c I want to get to work and back home to my kids safely.

Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!!

And where the hell is PennDot????????:headache:

I know exactly what you are talking about (except for the PennDOT)

I'm driving slower for a reason..I spun out on black ice once and ended up on a guardrail...not something I EVER want to do again.

Yeah, the SUVs & 4-wheel drive vehicles that fly down the icy highways almost make me laugh. 4-wheel drive DOES NOT cut it on ICE. Practically the ONLY way for any vehicle to safely travel on icy roads is to have studded snow tires (not quite legal in many jurisdictions) or the old-fashioned chains.

From all the news footage it sure looks like Mother Nature didn't give SUVs a pass from getting into accidents/skidding off highways/etc.

I feel your pain. Stay safe.

My street never got touched with any kind of road treatment, much less any kind of plowing (should have been done the one day that we had *some* melting), so it's an icy mess. The mailman got stuck in one of the neighborhood cul-de-sacs. The next street (before I get to the secondary road) wouldn't be in such relatively good shape if it weren't for a neighborhood service station owner who PLOWED IT HIMSELF. (No road trucks EVER came by to treat it or plow.) You better believe I am buying his more expensive gas for a while & also telling all my neighbors about his good deed.

I don't do over 5 miles an hour until I get out to the secondary road plus I am not attempting to truly stop at our neighborhood stop signs until the ice goes away - don't want to skid into oncoming traffic.

agnes!

It's not just SUV and truck drivers anymore. Some who drive AWD vehicles think they are impervious to ice and hydroplaning. If ya play chicken with a bridge, you're gonna lose.

I was driving on a back road yesterday and had to let this car that was tailing me pass. He was going about 50 on an icy back road. Only to wind-up behind a pick-up and slam on their brakes. Some people just have to learn the hard way upside down in a ditch or worse.

Yeah, and unfortunately one of us are gonna be in their way.

Try driving an SUV like me and have a girl in a VW Beatle tail gate you:lmao: ...I put my blinker on but didn't change lanes until about 2 miles later...she went by and gave me the finger...I blew her a kiss:lmao:

Yesterday I was taigated by a minivan, followed by a Hummer. Given that we were going by where I'd skidded the day before, I was a little nervous.

As my brother always says "Four wheel drive turns into four wheel skid real easy on ice!"

I like to gloat when they pass me and then I see them a few miles up the road skidded into the ditch. I have all wheel drive but still slow down and are very cautious.

sometimes 4wd is not the best.

Also IMOP most people do not know how to drive 4wd.

Maybe some of you should not go out when there is even an inch of snow! Or limit your travel to the 1pm to 3pm granny hour. People around here drive slow if there is even a sprinkle of rain. There are thousands more slow and "in the way" drivers than there are racers.

Don't bother with any personal replies, I have passed you in the other lane, honked and am already home while you all play in the snow for hours... with only three cars making it through the intersection during each green light!

I feel your pain and totally agree with you! These trucker drivers are so rude!

SUV's don't stop any better on ice than anyone else.

But some people wont get it until they kill or hurt another person, it is just too much trouble for them to slow down they might miss a minute in their arm chair doing nothing or playing on the computer, very sad indeed!

Yep, I drive a full size SUV.

I do have news for you. A "sprinkle of rain" will turn the roads as slippery as if there were a sheet of ice on it. Even in my 4WD, I've skidded around like crazy on a barely wet road.

I've been driving the roads where I live for over 24 years. If I'm going slowly in the snow or ice, you can damn well guarantee that the roads are bad, so slow down! I'd like a nickel for every 4WD or AWD I see lying in a ditch from their overconfidence on bad roads.

Ok, won't bother.

Not only that, but even if the 4WD vehicals do maintain perfect control in bad conditions, other cars don't, and if they go skiding infront of the giant SUV, they're going to get nailed. There are other reasons to slow down in bad weather other than just maintaining control of you own car, like avoiding hitting other people who can't control their's!

I drive cautiously on the icy roads, not just because I don't want to skid out, but because I am afraid someone coming the other direction is going to skid into my lane. This happened near us a couple of years ago, and a car skidded into the on coming traffic and was slammed by an SUV. The children in the car were killed. We hadn't even had a storm, it was freezing weather, and a business had used a hose for something and the water had run into the road. The woman driving the car was flying along, not expecting ice.

We have more then our fair share of idiot SUV drivers around here. Apparently we haven't all been clued into the fact that their lives and time are more important then ours. :sad2: Apparently we are supposed to put our lives in danger just to please them so that they can drive like idiots.

My favorite thing is to see some idiot in an SUV driving like a moron in the bad weather, then to go up the road a few miles and there they are, slammed into the center divider or stuck in a ditch. :rotfl2: Okay, it's only my favorite if no one is hurt. I don't want to see someone get hurt, especially some innocent person who was just driving home to their family when some irresponsible driver decided that he was invincible and came speeding by, causing injury or God forbid killing them.

Unfortunately, inconsideration and selfishness are part of our society and as long as they are, then people will drive like idiots, putting their lives and everyone elses in danger.

Hey, just do like I do. If you want to tailgate me that bad, then I will just slow down some. I want to make sure that you aren't going that fast when you ram into my car, thereby causing less damage to both my car and me. :drive: AND YOU BETTER HAVE INSURANCE!!! ::cop:
