Attention Hollywood: No more remakes!!

Why does Hollywood re-make movies? Because they know that people will pay top dollar to see them.

Why? I have no idea.

The reason Spiderman is being fast-tracked is (from what I have heard) so that they can tie it in to the new Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Avengers movies. (I have heard that the new Spidey stuff is going to be based on the Ultimate Spiderman series, which was a Marvel reboot a few years ago.)

The extended version of Highlander is better, but as far as I am concerned, there was only one Highlander movies. And then a couple pieces of %(*&$%* that tried to attached themselves, like a remora, to a cult film.

As to why Hollywood is doing it - I suspect they figure that a movie version of Gilligans Island, or a remake of Romancing the Stone is safer than coming up with something even remotely original.

(Last night, some friends of mine and I decided that a Gilligan's Island movie would be terrible, but if it were directed by Michael "Explosions! Explosions! Women! Explosions!" Bey, and starred Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox, it would still break $300 million. $350 if there was a banana cream pie catfight.)

In regards to the Spiderman rumor...that can't be the true case. Sony still owns the rights to Spiderman and as such until those rights lapse you will never see him cross over with the newer Ironman, Hulk, Thor or Captain America franchises that Marvel still owns outright. Which sucks.

The same applies to the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Daredevil.

I agree about the DaVinci Code, that one I would love to see a remake. They did a horrible job with it, not just having Tom Hanks but they left out so much of what really made the book so interesting. I didn't like any of the actors they put in it either.

Disagree.

1. there was nothing wrong with Tom Hanks

2. it is way to soon to do a remake of this movie.

I don't mind a decent remake but certain movies should be left alone.

Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of them.
I agree.

I also don't like the idea of someone remaking The Birds or any other Alfred Hitchcock movie for that matter. I was against the Halloween remake and still haven't seen the new version.

I am surprised to see people fussing about Tom Hanks. I've had no problem with him being in the DaVinci Code or Angels and Demons but to each their own. :confused3

Spiderman could stand to be redone though. I have never been a fan of Tobey Maguire in that role.

I heard they were going to do a remake of Sister Act with Beyonce or whatever her name is.

Sister Act is one of my favorite movies. Whoopi Goldberg was perfect for the role. It shouldn't be remade.

The Karate Kid-Saw the trailers...as a film it doesn't look bad...however Chan isn't teaching the boy karate...he's teaching him kung fu!!!

THANK YOU! that was my issue, with that movie, too. well....ONE of my issues. but yeah, i was thinking "wait a minute....this isn't karate!" and don't even get me started on Jackie Chan....i can't stand him.

How about too old, dull, not exciting, totally wrong, I could go on. I will never let that go.

Tom Hanks is not a character actor.

OK rant over.:lmao:

yeah he didn't seem to have much expression during most of the movie.

altho idk if i'd say he's not a "character" actor....i loved him in The Terminal....he was great!

To be fair...Metropolis isn't being remade...what we are going to be getting is a complete version of the original film that was edited...and re-edited so many times that a large portion of the original film was lost. Film historian have finally tracked down what they believe is every last existing peice of the original film and have worked tirelessly to re-cut it back together as well as clean the entire film and create a digital print that will show the film in all its glory. I for one cannot wait for this!

As to the other remakes...so of them simply make no sense.

Spiderman-I know the franchise's wheels feel off in the third movie, but I think some time should be allowed to pass before re-booting it.

Clash of the Titans-Sorry...I'd love to rail against this one as I love the original so much...but the new one looks outstanding!

Conan-Isn't a remake...it's just another film in the series.

Highlander-Wasn't that great to begin with...why bother?

The one not on the list that blew my mind when I found out about it...they are re-booting the American Pie franchise!!!

Why...just...WHY???

Okay I'm really relieved about Metropolis. I've only seen it once. I was home sick one day in the early 90s and it was on TV...I was AMAZED at it and never knew what it was until a few years ago I saw a clip somewhere. I would love to see that again.

And ya I'll be going to Clash of the Titans as well. It does look neat. I agree with you on Spiderman too, I am still mad how badly they screwed up the end of that franchise with that stupid third movie. I have no desire to go see a new Spiderman for quite a while.

Also I wish they'd have an actual plan when they start taking over the comic books. Spider man was good the first two movies (I actually liked the casting) and then they crammed three ideas into one movie...the thing they were building the entire time was like an afterthought. Harry deserved his own movie, not to be third banana behind venom saga (also deserved its own movie) and the Sandman. I doubt I'll be able to go to a Spiderman movie for a long time without being annoyed at that.

MY FAIR LADY!!!!!!:scared1::scared1::scared1::sad2::sad2:

I loved both the "Thing" movies. Why oh why would you remake classics??? I just don't get it.:confused3:confused3 WHY!

Because we LIKE them. If you don't want to watch it, then don't. I don't understand the outrage. It's not like they're taking the original and throwing it away so nobody can ever watch it again.

I utterly agree about remaking My Fair Lady. The original is perfection. True, I enjoy seeing different stage versions, but the original movie remains one of my favorites.

I guess someday they will remake The Music Man (with Russell Crowe or such as Professor Harold Hill), and Harvey (with Robin Williams). Sigh.

NOW! I will utter an opinion many will hate: I would not mind seeing a remake of Arsenic and Old Lace. I did enjoy the original, although I still think that Cary Grant was not right for his part. Indeed, speaking of Harvey, I think James Stewart would have been perfect for the part. However, he is dead, and so there is the end of it. Betty White would be good as one of the "old ladies".

Sometimes the new version taints the memory of the original. The best one I can think of is the Poseidon Adventure. That new one was SO bad.

Arsenic and Old Lace is one of my top movies and Cary Grant is one of my top actors. Needless to say, I don't agree. ;)

I think everyone who is complaining that there's no creativity in Hollywood hasn't looked very hard for interesting, original movies.

Just some of the movies I watched (and loved) last year... I don't think any of them were remakes:

Taken
Sunshine Cleaning
Adventureland
State of Play
The Soloist
Easy Virtue
Away We Go
The Hangover
The Proposal
The Hurt Locker
Avatar
500 Days of Summer
Inglorious Basterds
Precious

Even movies that I didn't like (but others loved) were in abundance and were not remakes:
District 9
An Education
Up in the Air

Agreed. I'm dreading the idea that people are going to re-do all the John Hughes movies at some point :( I just have a feeling now that they have gotten attention again that some studio is going to go back and remake them all. And could somebody explain why we are already re-doing Spiderman? I agree about Metropolis 100% too...that shouldn't be touched ever. I'd just like to find a good copy to buy, if anyone has any links hint hint :thumbsup2

Remake these and I will NEVER spead a dime of my money on them. DD12 loves to watch these with me. She laughs so hard at RDJ in Weird Science. First time she saw it, she keep telling me that wasn't Tony Stark.

If they remake it, it'll be the 3rd installment. Made for TV or on the big screen, a remake is a remake. Some I can take and others, like I said, I won't spend my money on them.

Take note of who the distributor is.
