The reason Spiderman is being fast-tracked is (from what I have heard) so that they can tie it in to the new Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Avengers movies. (I have heard that the new Spidey stuff is going to be based on the Ultimate Spiderman series, which was a Marvel reboot a few years ago.)
The extended version of Highlander is better, but as far as I am concerned, there was only one Highlander movies. And then a couple pieces of %(*&$%* that tried to attached themselves, like a remora, to a cult film.
As to why Hollywood is doing it - I suspect they figure that a movie version of Gilligans Island, or a remake of Romancing the Stone is safer than coming up with something even remotely original.
(Last night, some friends of mine and I decided that a Gilligan's Island movie would be terrible, but if it were directed by Michael "Explosions! Explosions! Women! Explosions!" Bey, and starred Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox, it would still break $300 million. $350 if there was a banana cream pie catfight.)
I agree about the DaVinci Code, that one I would love to see a remake. They did a horrible job with it, not just having Tom Hanks but they left out so much of what really made the book so interesting. I didn't like any of the actors they put in it either.
I agree.I don't mind a decent remake but certain movies should be left alone.
Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of them.
The Karate Kid-Saw the trailers...as a film it doesn't look bad...however Chan isn't teaching the boy karate...he's teaching him kung fu!!!
How about too old, dull, not exciting, totally wrong, I could go on. I will never let that go.
Tom Hanks is not a character actor.
OK rant over.![]()
To be fair...Metropolis isn't being remade...what we are going to be getting is a complete version of the original film that was edited...and re-edited so many times that a large portion of the original film was lost. Film historian have finally tracked down what they believe is every last existing peice of the original film and have worked tirelessly to re-cut it back together as well as clean the entire film and create a digital print that will show the film in all its glory. I for one cannot wait for this!
As to the other remakes...so of them simply make no sense.

Spiderman-I know the franchise's wheels feel off in the third movie, but I think some time should be allowed to pass before re-booting it.
Clash of the Titans-Sorry...I'd love to rail against this one as I love the original so much...but the new one looks outstanding!
Conan-Isn't a remake...it's just another film in the series.
Highlander-Wasn't that great to begin with...why bother?
The one not on the list that blew my mind when I found out about it...they are re-booting the American Pie franchise!!!
Why...just...WHY???
Why does Hollywood re-make movies? Because they know that people will pay top dollar to see them.
Why? I have no idea.
Because we LIKE them. If you don't want to watch it, then don't. I don't understand the outrage. It's not like they're taking the original and throwing it away so nobody can ever watch it again.
NOW! I will utter an opinion many will hate: I would not mind seeing a remake of Arsenic and Old Lace. I did enjoy the original, although I still think that Cary Grant was not right for his part. Indeed, speaking of Harvey, I think James Stewart would have been perfect for the part. However, he is dead, and so there is the end of it. Betty White would be good as one of the "old ladies".

Agreed. I'm dreading the idea that people are going to re-do all the John Hughes movies at some pointI just have a feeling now that they have gotten attention again that some studio is going to go back and remake them all. And could somebody explain why we are already re-doing Spiderman? I agree about Metropolis 100% too...that shouldn't be touched ever. I'd just like to find a good copy to buy, if anyone has any links hint hint

I guess someday they will remake The Music Man (with Russell Crowe or such as Professor Harold Hill), and Harvey (with Robin Williams). Sigh.
Arsenic and Old Lace is one of my top movies and Cary Grant is one of my top actors. Needless to say, I don't agree.![]()
I am excited to go see a new Clash of the Titans.
