Attention brides flying JetBlue

JetBlue will not let you put your dress in their coat closet. So you either have to put it in the overhead compartment (I'm shoving mine in a box - thankfully it will be steamed when we arrive!) or check it. Just a heads up...

We were able to put ours in the overhead compartment. The flight attendants told us to wait until everyone had boarded and put their stuff up and then they would rearrange things to make sure there was enough room for my dress. They were very nice and I loved flying Jet Blue. We had so much leg room!!!

We flew JetBlue down for the wedding.

What I did was purchase an extra seat on the way down for my dress.

When I called Customer Service, we had a good laugh when I said what I wanted to do - but then she told me to just book the seat as "Extra Seat Monahan."

The seat was only like $70 - and it also entitled us to the extra baggage allowance - which we used to check boxes of welcome bag items that would not need to come back to NY. Cheaper than shipping the items UPS.

Then when we checked in, the allowed us priority boarding.

The one thing the flight attendant insisted on was that I buckle the dress in - we got a good laugh about that!

We only paid for the ticket one way - since Carolyn Allen's was picking up my dress for cleaning after the wedding.

I know it sounds silly but it really gave me peace of mind - and the dress never left my sight once.

Ann had it exactly right - if you are really concerned about your dress, book it a seat on the way down. That way it stays right next to you - and yep, you do have to "strap it in!"

I was a travel agent for years and people do this with many delicate objects they don't want to trust to checking... large muscial instruments especially - ever try to check a cello?

It's not very expensive when you consider the importance of what it is. Plus, you should never count on getting overhead space - it's not guaranteed for anyone.

The other thing to remember is that JetBlue - like many other airlines - isn't being difficult. Many airplanes are now designed without a coat closet to allow an extra 2 revenue-producing seats. Coat closets exist primarily for the first class traveler and most discount airlines don't have a first class compartment. In fact, one of the reasons I LOVE JetBlue is because everyone gets great treatment - they don't save the really special warm fuzzies for the folks up front!
