Does anyone know who the glass artist is that created the atrium chandelier? Also, I know somewhere I heard the approximate weight of the chandelier and I wondered if anyone knew that. I'm working on my "atrium" scrapbook page. Thanks a bunch!

He has also done the work in the Bellagio Lobby in Las VEgas....I noticed his work immediately upon entering the lobby...made me think of the Magic!!!

I'll find my pics and post them in a bit....

He works in glass but his creations for the Magic and Wonder are NOT glass (probably way to dangerous and heavy for on a ship)

He also did the huge blue and white sculpture near the waterfall at Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut. My DW was able to take a tour of his studio while on a business trip to Seattle. She was very impressed.

I don't kow the answer, but that thing scares me. Everytime I see it, I think it is going to come down and try to eat me. I'm serious. I think it has tried! ;)

I think the guy who designed that also dod the one at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, but don't quote me on that. I am not positive.

Found the answer to my own question:

To meet the unique requirements of a chandelier onboard a cruise ship, Dale Chihuly and his studio developed an entirely new medium, a combination of glass and acrylic, specifically for "Festa Venezia"

If I remember our tour guide correctly, I think the Atlantis has three or four ginormous Chihuly pieces as well. There's a red and orange one in the casino that's just spectacular.

He did a number of pieces for display at our Franklin Park Conservatory (butterfly and plant exhibit). The pieces were specifically designed to go with the permanent displays. It was only suppose to be for a few months, but he decided to let the conservatory keep the items.
They are quite beautiful.

I guess we know where we won't find shmoogrrrl. :rotfl:

yes, Chihuly created a few pieces for Atlantis....

I'd also like to know what they are if there not glass?

I have a great shot of the art work at Atlantis...If I can figure out how to post it...I will.

Dale Chihuly has pieces around the world. An interesting note! He's actually the designer of the pieces, and no longer blows them himself as he went blind in one eye due to an accident. He does all the design and finishing work though.

The pieces on the ships are some sort of plastic. I learned that on the travel channel a couple of years back. I love his art work. Kathy

Dale Chihuly also did an amazing piece in the entry of the new Borgata Casino in Atlantic City. There are several others there too. He is an amazing artist. I have often done a search on ebay for some of his small pieces - beautiful, but they are thousands of dollars!

There is a local restaurant in CT as well--Norwalk area--that has a large piece hanging from their ceiling. I believe it is called "sun rising over ocean" or something. I also believe they either paid $250,000 for it or it is insured for that much. The one at Mohegan is nice too---has some broken pieces unfortunately. It is smaller than the one in the restaurant.

The pbs-like channels had a special on him a while ago. They showed a pool he did--which I think is his own pool--where he put a layer of his blown glass down and then but acrylic on top then built the pool over that. It is lit from underneath.
