Did not do any excursions this last cruise, but our next will be adults only, so we are thinking of going to Atlantis while in Nassau. No beach or water park, just hotel and maybe casino. Anyone done this? How long should we plan to be there? Also, Disney's price seems a little high just for a bus ride over and back. Anyone go by private taxi? Which is best? Not sure I trust the locals and want to make sure I get there and back safe.

From my experience in Nassau, you just pile into a large van/taxi and they take you over to Atlantis. I don't know if there were certain taxi companies or even if you could line one up in advance. It might not be exactly what you would expect in the States but it is cheap, efficient and about as safe as cab rides in most major cities. For 4 of us, they normally charged us about $16-20 to get to Paradise Island.

Do you have all the same access to the resort if you go it alone as you do if you book the excursion through DCL?

If you are just walking around the casino / restaurants / bars you'll be indistinguishable from any of the other guests. If you want to experience the water park / aquarium, then you will need a wrist band which you get with a room at either Atlantis or Comfort Suites. I've heard that you can purchase daily passes, but we went the Comfort Suites route (which was cheaper than DCL excursion).

You will have access to shopping, the casino and some restaurants. You will not have access to any of the aquariums, pools or slide areas. I believe the Disney excursion includes the aquariums. You may be able to get a day pass for the aquarium, but it would depend on how full the resort is. We checked into this about 3 years ago and 1 hour guided tour of the aquariums was $39 for adults.
