Can we cab-it to the resort and see the saltwater aquarium? Is there a charge for this ?(besides the cab of course) Also can we leave and return to the ship more than once while in port?

Hi! Yes, you can go over yourself, and I recommend it highly. You can come and go all you please thru the day. There is a link to pics of the place from us being there, on the webpage link in my signature line below, just go to the May 2002 Wonder page.

I have a cut n paste instructions for this, I'll add it here:

Ok, you've said the magic word! Atlantis is the real highlight of Nassau.

Ok, you *can* do the excursion, but, it can get rushed. It is a gorgeous resort, you have four options:

1) The Disney excursion.

2) Get a room at the resort, and use all the amentities, 2 options: reserve a room, or try to get over and get a 'day room' limited in availability, first come, first served, and a good bit cheaper.

3) Get a room at Comfort suites, which is considerably cheaper, and allows up to 4 per room full access to everything at Atlantis.

4)(my preference) If you really don't want to use the water amenities, which amounts to a few fancy slides, a nice beach, and a lazy river, You can very easily do it yourself. To do so, just follow these steps:
  • Leave the ship and go to the end of the dock.
  • Take one of the numerous taxis for (right now, price partially depends on a bridge toll) $5 per person to Atlantis, much more pleasant than the overcrowded water taxi. Or, you can find limos for hire there as well for comparable prices.
  • Walk to the center of the casino upon arrival, to the kiosk with the blue globe(Temple of the Moon). I heard they moved the booth somewhere else-but my understanding it is now much easier to find as well.
  • Buy a wristband for $25 each Adults, $19 Kids 4-12, under 4 free, for access to all the resort except the water recreation(you can still walk out to the beach, just not on it).
  • Walk the Dig at your own pace. It's long, at least a mile or more, but it is exceptional. And you basically walk about 2/3 of the property in doing so, they give you a map. You can go where you wish, at your own pace.
  • Whenever you're done, just go back to where you were dropped off for another taxi ride back to the ship.
We did this and still got back in time for a late lunch shipboard. But you can indulge yourself of the restaurants at Atlantis, but they are a bit pricey. Any questions? Feel free to ask!

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming that the $25. gives you access to the aquarium aspect of the resort. We're first timers to the cruise game and to Nassau and this is what my fiance(will be wife by the time we arrive) really wants to see in port.:D

Yep. if you don't get the wristbands you're limited to the casino and the main building of the resort only. The Dig is a sprawling assortment of aquariums that cover a good amount of the outside resort areras, some are underground viewing, some are above ground, all worth seeing. The whole thing is themed as the sunken city of Atlantis. I also have some pics in the 'SS member scrapbook' on the page listed as Nassau day. Just click on the Monorailgreen.info below :)

Just how expensive is the food at Atlantis? Me and my wife plan on visiting it during our May cruise.

I'm Mark's wife so I'll tackle the food question. While walking around the resort we stopped for a can of pop. It was $2.50! We bought it because we were hot and thirsty but that is when we looked at our watches and told ourselves we could make it back in plenty of time for lunch onboard ship (a lunch that we didn't have to pay for).

:D

I figured if pop was that expensive I didn't want to see what everything else cost.

We went to Atlantis in March 2003 on our 3 day wonder cruise. We had a fabulous time. Took a taxi over for $4 per person. We didn't buy a wrist band or anything, just walked around and looked at everything....beautifull place. We were going to try and get a "day room", but got there and realized we didn't bring a swim suit or anything. We shopped and looked around the casino and saw some of the aquariums and beach/hotel grounds. We ate lunch at a poolside outdoor place. 2 adults and 1 child. We had a child's chicken strip meal and drink, I had a cheeseburger and a pina colada, and my mother in law had a large salad and a drink of some sort...and the bill was nearly $60. It was really good and the atmosphere was fantastic. I would highly recomend it!!
