Atlantis Beach Day? Anyone? (Nassau)

My cousin spent an hour talking to me about this excursion. She and her DH and 3 kids did it last week. Her husband enjoyed the casino, she and older kids loved aquarium and they all enjoyed their day on the beach. She said water was really cold, but sun was nice and warm. She said lunch consisted of a choice of burger, hot dog or chicken sandwich - all served with fries. She said they had no real complaints.

this excursion just seems kinda expensive ($60 per person). maybe we could do it on our own? I am soooooooooooo confused!

cousin did mention it would be a little cheaper if they'd done it on their own. She did say lunch was included and if they'd bought burger and fries themselves it was $15. each and aquarium and tour was $25 if they did it on their own. Add cost of cab and beach chair and maybe the savings wouldn't be that great. My cousin liked the idea of someone else handling the details.

With that excursion, you only get access to Atlantis' beach and the aquarium, not the pools and water slides. Those are reserved for hotel guests. If all you want to do is visit the casino, you can just take a taxi over to the resort. If you want to visit the aquarium, you can get a ticket for just that. DW Sue and I took the water taxi to/from Atlantis when we cruised in November. We decided not to pony up the $25 per person to walk through the "Dig". We walked around as much of the resort as we could, then spent 5 minutes in the casino where Sue won $75 at the quarter slots. We hightailed it back to the ship and spent the rest of the day on board the Wonder.

I think we have decided to try this on our own...............thanks for the replys! If all else fails we stay onboard and have fun fun fun!

We are also interested in this excursion. I did a search over the weekend and a few people wrote in and said they were bothered a bit on the beach by people trying to sell them things and trying to get them to use the jet skis. They also said the water was "choppy" and made swimming difficult. Anyone have any observations/advice. The thoughts of people bothering us on the beach is very unappealing.

We are just back from Wonder 4 day. We decided to rent a day room at the Atlantis on our own. We had heard on these boards we would spend about $150 per room. Well, when we got there they told us the rate had gone up 1/1/03 to $200. One clerk said this included taxes and then his manager stepped in and it did not included taxes and I think it went to about $250. Well we need 2 rooms and $500 seemed really high. We went to another area of the hotel and got the same story. We gave up and tried to go to the public beach nearby. It was so windy the sand hurt your skin. We caught a cab back to the ship and had a wonderful afternoon by the Goofy pool. Warm and the wind was blocked. The pools were 80 degrees and everyone was happy.

We have decided to try the Atlantis Beach Day excursion. Will post when we return if we enjoyed it or thought it was worth the $$$$.

Spoke to my cousin again. She said the water was very cold. The only one who got into the water was her youngest.

We did Atlantis on our own in October. We took a van (taxi) over with our group of 8 and visited the aquariums which were great! My DS's 16 months and 4 really enjoyed it. DH stayed behind and hit the casino while we all went back to the ship for lunch.

One word of warning, the $25 pass to the aquariums does not allow you to use the beaches or any other facilities except for the aquariums.

Also if you plan on staying long enough for lunch food is expensive.

As the previous poster stated even DCL excursion does not include the pools or slides just the beach (beach chair & towel), aqauariums and casino (which is free). I am sure in the spring/ summer and fall months the water is warm. It was fine in October.

I am doing the beach excursion on a Mommy's only trip on RCCL in August and will post my thoughts when I get back.

I see that the DCL excursion only includes the beach, not the pools or the slides. My question is, how does Atlantis classify the Paradise Lagoon water and beach area? Are these areas considered beach or pools? I'd like to think that the Paradise Lagoon area is considered part of the beach excursion, but I want to be certain before I make my final decision. I’m primarily interested in finding a nice, quiet stretch of beach/water where my kids can safely play in the (calm, protected) water and I can do a bit of snorkeling.
