Atlantic Canadian WDW Fans

Hello from just outside of Halifax.

Interested in hearing how to fly to WDW, we have driven 4x since Dec06 and plan on 2 more trips before the year is out.

I think that once I get to either NH or Portland ME, I can make the rest of the trip! I find it's the worst part, especially the trip home. So I haven't been too keen on booking flights. Maybe if I could fly from Bangor...:confused3

But to fly out of Halifax is just not an option, with 5 of us.

Anyway, our neighbours and coworkers think we're nuts! Nice to see some fellow loons out there!

We have been flying from Bangor. If you go to Portland, you can use Jet Blue and you can add Southwest if you drive to Manchester.

We too having been searching flights out of Halifax. They are reayy high this summer. We looked at Portland and Manchester but the drive is about 15 h ours from here. Its not bad on the way but coming back makes it long. We miss Canjet, last year flights were soo cheap. We went last July, for Christmas and MArch Break, would like to get back in August but not at the price it is to fly now. Let me know if you find something out of Halifax. By the way are you DVC owners and or pin collectors?

Wendy

I just booked a flight about a month ago for 4 people for $2700 out of Halifax. It was the cheapest one. I am checking the flights right now and it's horrendous.

We are planning on trying to drive to Portland or Boston next August and fly out from there. I just don't think we would like the long drive. But I saw the seat sales from JetBlue or Airtran and even with the sale we got this trip, we would have been able to save $1600. Which is why we are considering driving to Boston.

We are also dvc members and AP members so we like to go at least twice a year and these airfare prices are just putting such a strain on our Disney budget.:sad2:

How is the drive to Portland or Boston?

(By the way, we were able to get a great deal on our last trip - this past March - we were able to get a direct flight home with Westjet for about $200 per person. It was amazing. We also did okay for the flight there with Continental at about the same price. So we were able to go in March for $1600 for 4 people. Now, I have been looking and the cheapest flight is $3300 for 4 for next March   :sad2: )

From Fredericton it is about 4 to 5 hours to Portland and 8 to Boston. The drive is pretty good as we usually drive north to Woodstock/Houlton and hit the I95.

Have you considered using the Cat to cross at Yarmouth to Bar Harbour to save some driving time?

Is that a better option? How far from Bar Harbour to Boston?

(We just moved here from Toronto, so we're not very familiar with Yarmouth/Bar Harbour)

If you cross to Bar Harbour, it is about 1 hour to Bangor, 3 to Portland and 5 to Boston. I don't know how much time it would save but you wouldn't need to drive through NB to get to the US.

There is also a crossing form Yarmouth to Portland (5 hours or so) the other crossing is about 3 hours.

Hi:

We looked at The Cat and for 3 of us return with vehicle that was $1000US. We can't seem to win. I'm hoping that at the last minute there might be a sale but I just don't know. The one thing thats killing us is the fuell surcharge. It bumps the tickets up several hundred dollars. Driving to Portland or Manchester may be the best option. We may have to make it part of the trip which would mean less time in Florida:confused3

Let me know if anyone finds anything.

Wendy

Thanks, I'll look into it. However, I was told that it takes about 7 hours from Halifax to Bangor. I just checked and it would take us 4 hours to get to Yarmouth. So, it sounds like it would save us a little less than an hour of driving. I guess we have to decide if the 3 hour crossing and 1 hour of driving is worth the CAT prices. Actually, I'm not sure, it sounds as if the CAT is expensive.

We are planning to drive through NB to go to Bangor this summer, we'll see whether we will be okay with the drive or it will drive us nuts. We will probably decide then.

Thanks again for the info.:)

 That is too expensive for us. It wouldn't be worth the savings from airfare for us in that case. I think we will definitely consider driving through NB.

Okay ... I was interested when reading "Atlantic Canadian WDW Fans" subject title given this represents several Provinces, but disappointed when reading on to find out it was looking for New Brunswickers!

What's up with that!

Go back and read the OP please. I changed it from New Brunswickers to Atlantic Canadians almost immediately after posting it months ago.

The airfare out of Halifax is getting a little crazy. We had priced flights out of Bangor and Boston (just the two of us) and they were around $800 cheaper. Even with the driving and the hotel stay, it's well worth it even for two. I don't think it drive the whole way though - what is it, two or three days?

Ted here, from you guessed it. Halifax. Just bought my tickets for my second family trip to disney (Feb 2009) 5 People $2,465 (everything in ..taxes etc). Individual tickets are listed as 369+137 tax etc. Fare applies to Jan and early Feb through transatholidays .... it's a canjet charter and I flew the same carrier before. I found it way better than any experience I had with Air Canada ... on several occasions.

I also looked at Jetblue (portland) and SW (manchester), but even with low fares, I was still coming in at $US1,800 (for 5), plus gas, parking/hotel, meals ... plus driving with a 5 and 7 year .... they would start asking "are we there yet" by the time I drove by our own airport ... plus my Wife and my mother. I figured I would need to add a lawyer to the above estimate .... ;)

HI
We're booking our first trip at Christmas, and boy am I glad to say I got the tickets with airmiles. (Yes at christmas, God loves me!)

I thought that I had tons of time, and now find out I'd better get planning or be left in the mickey-dust :)

We booked our flights last week for our trip this September. Portland, Maine to Orlando (return) - $834 for four of us (2 adults, 2 kids), taxes and everything included! I had lurked for months. It's with US Airways, and only one connector each way (Atlanta).

Hi from western NB. My family and I are flying from Boston in late feb for $209 pp taxes and airport fees in on Delta nonstop to Orlando.BUT theres a charter company that flys from BANGOR to ORLANDO, I forget the name but check the Bangor airport website They had sum amazing rates that unfortunatley didnt work with the dates we had but if ur flexible it might be a good option to save a few $ and the drive further down the east coast .I dont mind driving and have driven to Florida several times ,we actually had planned on driving this time as well as it would be our 3 daughters first big trip anywhere and our son, his first trip to disney. We look at the drive as part of the fun:thumbsup2 of going "south", just this year with fuel and time constraints we feel flying in will be a better option. So if any of you are going in late feb , 1st of march hope to see you there ,we'll be the "organised chaos family",If your going after that Im really sorry our kids broke it whatever it is , just put it on our room ok? :lmao: dw , dh , dd's 5 :dance3: ds 9

We checked on flights for January from Bangor and you can go directly from Bangor for like $239 each way.
