Atlanta-Macon Stopping Point

Just got back from Disney and on the way we stayed at the Comfort Inn West in Macon, I think it was exit 3 off I-475. There were five of us, had to get a rollaway for an extra $5, plenty of room, fridge and I think a microwave too. It was around $80 with tax after my AAA discount. My picky DD's liked it. There are two Comfort Inns in Macon, make sure you get the West one. Have a great trip!

There are plenty of hotels south of Atlanta - just get past the airport and you should be fine trafficwise when you start driving the next morning. You can also check for Georgia highway construction at http://www.dot.state.ga.us/specialsubjects/roadconstruction/index.shtml to see if you should drive past the construction before stopping for the night.

As soon as you hit the GA line stop at the first rest stop you see and pick up a couple of those motel discount coupon books. We have never paid over $50 a nite for a room on the way down or back and in off season we have found rooms for $28 a nite for a suite! Just make sure that you inspect the room BEFORE you register as some places are better than others and they will surely give you a better room IF you insist on inspecting the room first. (been there, done that)

BTW, this tip works great for any road trip unless you are going somewhere that is really popular and the rooms might be full up. We have saved lots of bucks this way through the years.

Never found a Disney room(on property) in a coupon book though.

The best (and newest) places to stay in Macon are off of I-475 on Zebulon Road. Another good choice would be Exit 169 off of I-75.

STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM EISENHOWER PARKWAY!!!

There is a La Quinta Inns and Suites that I always hear is clean and well kept. Anything in that area or the Zebulon Road area should be decent.

But go any further south and you will likely be VERY dissatisfied!!

Macon is a little longer than 5 hours from Orlando, though. It's more like 5.5 or 6 depending on stops. But it's an easy, straight shot.
