Hi......my job is sending me down to Atlanta, Georgia for the week starting tomorrow. I was just wondering if anyone knew of things that I should make sure that I see while I'm there.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated......

I was there a couple months back, I was able to see, on a Sunday, the Coca-Cola Museum and The Underground, both interesting. And a DIS meet. :teeth:

I would want to see browneyes

Olympic Park. Interesting and in the middle of it all.
If a baseball game is being played, I love the baseball park there.
The zoo has panda bears.
Little Five Points has eclectic shopping and restaurants.
Great shopping at Lennox Square and Phipps Plaza.
Coca Cola museum - at the end of the tour there are samples of coke around the world - similar to the samples at Epcot - but more of them.
Have a great time

The Coca-Cola Museum was fun, but I don't ever want to do the Underground again.

Buckhead is a nice area to stay in. If you have the Entertainment card you can get a great rate at AmeriSuites.

Mall of Georgia in Buford. If you're into big malls, its pretty cool! Dont forget to try the the IMAX theater and the nascar racing.

We go there ALL the time, (too much). We dont hardly ever go to downtown Atlanta. We just take the interstates through and get to the suburbs around it.

Some other awesome things.

Stone Mountain
Cabbage Patch (yes the dolls!!)
Six Flags over GA
Dollywood

those are the things we have done. :)

I, too, would suggest seeing a game at Turner Field, but I checked and the Braves are out of town until after the All Star break. Turner Field is really something special. The Braves museum should be open however and there is a tour of TF, even if the team is out of town.

Our whole family found the Cyclorama very interesting and entertaining.

The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum is lovely and interesting, too

My favorite attraction in the Atlanta area is Stone Mountain, but you said it's a business trip for you. Stone Mountain is an all day attraction. If you have a full day available, I'd make it tops on the list. The nighttime laser show is amazing.

Stone Mountain Park

As to things that have been mentioned, the World of CocaCola is interesting, but I'd avoid Underground Atlanta. I was not impressed in the least.

Also some of the Mickey statues are in Atlanta right now as part of their tour. They are being showcased at Underground Atlanta. ::MickeyMo

Hi....just wondering if anyone could tell me the distance between Atlanta Georgia and the town of Doraville. Any info would be great.

thanks

Be careful. Don't go out alone after dark if you're staying Downtown... not very safe :(

Dollywood

HUH? Dollywood's in Tennessee....So I'm kinda confused by that. Don't plan on going to Dollywood while you're in Atlanta!

I went for the first time yesterday, and enjoyed the Coke museum a lot, not something I really want to do again, but it was fun. I tried every drink!

LOVED the Mickey statues at Underground Atlanta! They also had some cool painted cows from various cities. I'd recommend it, but I wouldn't take any valuables. Eat at Johnny Rocket's while you're in Underground! It's a 50's style burger joint and just a lot of fun!

Doraville is about 15-20 miles Northeast of Atlanta.

I wish I could help you but I don't do any FUN things in Atlanta.... unless, of course, a DIS meet! :teeth:

LOL! Dollywood is about a six hour drive OUT of Atlanta. The next time I drive 6 hours out of Atlanta I'd prefer being in Orlando!!

I'm about 2 1/2 hours north of Atlanta, but if you're going to be there, I can make it there in about an hour or so.;)

I just got back from a weekend in Atlanta, and I go to Atlanta every other year or so to see a Braves series.

Must sees:

World of Coca-Cola: Adjacent to Underground, this is a blast!
Turner Field/Braves Game: See the "Real America's Team", Turner is definetly an underrated stadium. Living close to Camden Yards, I definetly prefer Turner.
Phipps/Lenox Malls in Buckhead: If you're from a city without major upscale malls, you will be blown away. Richmond just opened two similar malls last year, but these places were still nice. Parisian, Nordstrom, etc. are nice to look at but aren't very shoppable.
ESPN Zone (Buckhead): A great place for lunch and then big arcade games. Ate lunch next to Atlanta Brave Mike Hampton on Saturday!

Overrated:

Underground: Basically a rundown mall slightly below ground. I have never understood the fascination. As I was walking towards the Braves shuttle through the Underground last weekend a teenage girl pulled a gun on some random guy she got into an argument with...
The Varsity: All of my friends seem to love this place but it's not very good. I didn't get much of the famed smart talk from the employees, and the food was overly greasy.

This past trip was the first time I used the Marta Bus/Train system and it was amazingly efficient compared to the lousy mass transit system in Richmond. For $1.75 I could ride from the Northern burbs to Turner Field. Much cheaper than parking and gas. Marta has a train station in Doraville.

If you go to ESPN Zone make sure you try the Krispy Kreme sundae or go next door and have a cappucino and cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory.

I second going to Stone Mountain. Make sure to stay and see the laser show.
