Atlanta, GA airports..???

Hi everyone:

We will be flying to Atlanta, GA for a basketball tournament in July. Having never flown here before, is there more than one airport choice? I am looking for inexpensive airfare from Boston/Manchester, NH, and wanted to know if there are smaller airports in neighboring towns that may be cheaper??

There is an airport in Macon, GA, but I'm not sure what carriers fly there. Macon is 72 miles south of Atlanta. I would think that you would get cheaper airfare flying into Hartsfield (ATL) as opposed to a smaller airport, since they have so many flights and you have more choices of carriers.

Unlike DC, Chicago, and NY, Atlanta only has the one option of Hartsfield for local commercial flights.

Like Ms. Belle said, Macon is about 72 miles south. I found the site through Google and Atlantic Southeast (Delta Connection) is the only commercial carrier. Athens is maybe 45-50 miles to the east, the only commercial carrier is US Airways. Chattanooga is about 100 miles north of Atlanta, with American, Comair and Atlantic Southeast (both Delta Connection), US Airways, and Northwest flying into there.

Southwest doesn't fly into Atlanta -- closest I know they come is Birmingham, about 3 hours west -- but Airtran's hub is in Atlanta.

hey we aren't that far from Atlanta...

of course it is close to 3hours to the airport...

bhm is about 2 hours from Atlanta. (some people can do it in an hour and half)

Thanks for the replies everyone! I guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet with airfares. The cheapest right now from BOS to ATL is $247 pp!
