Atkins questions?

Is sleeplessness a sympton of a low-carb diet? I'm talking about where you go to bed tired, but lay awake for hours and you just can't fall asleep. Then when you finally do, it's a very restless sleep.
Also, do you find that you don't feel hungry anymore? There isn't that nagging feeling of emptiness that tells you it's time to get the next meal.
Are these common occurences with low carb living?
 
I have two friends that don't need to lose any weight, but they had insomnia problems. They read up on Atkins, and tried it. It worked.

Now having said that, sometimes when I try induction again (this has happened a thousand times :rolleyes: ), I do have problems in the beginning. Maybe for two reasons:

I think my mind is so excited and I'm planning a lot in my head. You know, you start thinking about if you are really successful this time........

Also, I wonder if any sleep problems come in the first few days because your body is switching over the way it burns fuel. It is switching from glucose to stored fat.

Just some thoughts. This only lasts for a few days with me and then I'm back to normal. Hope this helps a little. :sunny:
 
I've always had a bit of slow-sleep insomnia, so I can't help you there, but the not hungry feeling is definitely a "side effect" for a lot of people. I think especially if you've been on a frankenfood low fat diet for a while, your body is so thrilled to get real food with some fat in it, it goes blissfully silent. :)
 
I haven't experienced trouble sleeping because of my diet, in my case it is the inability to shut down my brain--planning my next day, planning my next trip, etc.

I have experienced the loss of appetite though. It's great. When you are in ketosis this is one of the benefits, no feeling of hunger. I have to remind myself to eat :)
 

I make myself go to sleep but I'm never really tired anymore. I guess that's good. Does keep me up later than I would like. I know about the planning, nativetxn, but I was like that even before Atkins. I didn't sleep at all during the two weeks before my wedding last year. At least we can think clearly. When I took Phen-Fen a number of years ago, I couldn't remember what I was doing one moment to the next!
 
I have found with a low carb lifestyle..I sleep like a rock. I used to not sleep much at all, now it is great.



It's not that I don't feel hungry..I don't have all the sugar cravings anymore, which is also great. Hubby and I are eating better than we ever have, feeling better than we ever have and shrinking quicker than we ever have.
