Ok I was at my high school reunion over the weekend--let's just say I'm now committed to losing weight before my husband's class reunion next year (not to mention our Disney trip in December!!0

Anway, lots of you seem to be having good luck with Atkins and my aunt has lost over 100 lbs on Atkins. Can any of you give me the details of Atkins? I've read some things about it on the web, but not enough to tell if it is something I could do or not. Don't want to ask my aunt, as I would rather hold off on that as long as possible.

Thanks for your input!

Basically, Atkins is a low-carbohydrate diet plan. The basic theory behind the diet is that you eat a diet very low in carbs. In the absence of carbs, your body will then turn to your stored fat for fuel.

Basically, when you are on the first phase of the diet (called Induction), you limit your carb intake to 20 grams or less a day, mostly in the form of salad vegetables or other low-carb vegetables. You do not eat any grains, flour, starches, fruit, or sugars for the first two weeks, and base your meals primarily on protien and fat (meat, cheese, eggs, etc.) You do not have to count calories, just carbs. The purpose of Induction is to jump-start your weight loss.

After Induction, you move through three more phases, where you gradually reintroduce some healthy carbs back into your diet, such as more vegetables, some fruits, and occasionally beans and whole grains.

There are a lot of misconceptions about Atkins-- some people think it's dangerous, some think you eat nothing but bacon and eggs, etc. A good place for info about the diet is

http://www.atkinscenter.com

Go there and read some of the articles. If you're interested, you should pick up a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution at your local bookstore (*shameless plug* Waldenbooks is a good place to go ;) ). It's only about 8 dollars, and it has a lot of useful info.

If you decide to try Atkins, and have any questions, feel free to post here! There are a bunch of Atkins experts on these boards!

Good luck!

well GarrettJD pretty much summed it up for you.........the book Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution is very helpful and so is the atkins website. I just finished my first two weeks of atkins and have already lost 15lbs. and feel better than I have in almost two years. It's not as hard as some people make it out to be and its not as dangerous as some critics say either. The website has a FAQ's section that answers all those kinds of questions and explains why it works and why it's not so dangerous.

Good luck with whatever plan you choose to do......we will all be here to support you in your endeavors.

Have A Disney Day!!!!!!!!!:smooth:
