I'd appreciate some help from you Atkins people. I'm starting induction on Monday 7/7. I'd like to do some goal setting to help me stay motivated. The first goal I've set is simply to stay on induction for 2 wks. I'd also like to set a weight goal, but I have no idea what would be realistic. I know we all lose at different rates, even on the same diet, but if some of you could tell me how much you lost during that first 2 wk period, it would at least give me a starting point to set my own goal. I need to feel some success right now since I've been stuck at my current weight for over a month now, so I'm looking for a short term goal that will help to reinforce the success that I know I'm going to have on Atkins. One day at a time is usually all I can handle, but for weight loss I think I really do need to look at a slightly longer time period than that. :sunny:

I lost 10 pounds the first 2 weeks, and then 7 the 3rd week. We all lose at different paces, so PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE don't let yourself get discouraged if it does not "melt away"???

:D

You can do it!!!

Nancy....IMHO...what you are asking is really not fair to yourself. You already said it...everyone loses weight differently.

First thing you need to know about Atkins...if you have been a "low fatter" (WW, slimfast..etc) for any amount of time...this is going to slow your Atkins weight loss down. It has something to do with your stored fat...blah blah blah. Also, are you going to be exercising??? is this increased or are you just starting??? You will be burning fat and creating muscle. So right there...that is a battle of weight.

My point is...there are soooo many different sceniros that could happen...I know some people who lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks...but then there was me who lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks and that was it for quite a few weeks.

A general rule that I have seen that keeps proving itself is about 10% of what you need to lose.

Sorry for the long post...I just want you to keep in mind Atkins is not JUST about Weight Loss...it is about getting healthy, reducing your cholestrol, your Blood pressure, keeping your sugar in check...etc. So if at first you don't see a HUGE weight loss...just know that if you work at it...you will!!!

Good Luck...we will be here if you need us!!

John, I think I'd be so excited I'd have a heart attack if I ever manage to lose 10 lbs in 2 wks! :earseek: LOL! I'd be way too excited for that to be good for me! :bounce: Now if that does happen, I'll manage to learn to deal with it, :teeth: but really I'll be happy as long as the number on my scale gets even a little bit smaller. :sunny:

Tracy, I've not been doing low fat, I've been doing reduced portions, and exercising 5 days/wk since Jan.

don't ever compare yourself to a man's weight loss. Mens bodies are different (duh!!!!!), what I mean is their body are designed the burn more fat, than a woman's body, they have larger muscle mass & their bodies also contained way more "brown" fat, which is what helps in losing weight in any type of exerise. I don't understand all of it, but whatever a man loose in 2 weeks, most women will lose much much less.
Tracy is right, don't compare yourself to anyone. you really set yourself up for heartache later. Remember keep your eye on the finish line, your goal weight and determine that you'll keep working towards that, no matter how long it takes.
Just for the record (or to answer your question) in my first 2 weeks I lost 6.5lbs, then it was slower after that. And then for 4 weeks it didn't change.

Be realistic with yourself. First and foremost look at how much you have lost on other diets before trying Atkins. Whatever you come up with, just hope it is more than that. I did not loose much the first two weeks, maybe 6 pounds. For me that was a great achievement becasue the most I had lost after great sacrifice was aybe 5 pounds a month. Just be happy when you loose. Every diet has it pros and cons, just try and see if it is the diet for you. Good luck Nancy

I lost 11 pounds during my first 2 weeks of inductions....but as everyone has said...everyone loses at a different rate, plus it depends on how much you have to lose.

My best advice for you is to NOT CHEAT...it truley is the kiss of death on this diet.

I also bought the ketone sticks to find out when I was burning the most fat. I think it helped me stay motivated...I could look at the color of the stick and I could see that my body was flushing out fat!

I wish you lots of patience and will power. (After the first week it will be 1000% easier!)

I think you are smart to set short term goals for yourself. They help to keep you motivated as long as they are realistic. Again, everyone loses at different rates so please don't compare yourself to others. I lost 15lbs in the 1st 2 weeks but then things have slowed down. Make sure you measure yourself so that even when the scale doesn't move you will be able to see some results. The week the scale didn't move for me, I lost several inches which kept me motivated. Stick to the induction rules just as they are spelled out for the best results. Take each day as it comes. I think the first few days are the hardest but then it is VERY easy after that. Goo Luck!

I'm going to be the cold dash of reality here, but, after 2 weeks of induction, I'd lost 0 (ZERO) lbs and after 4 weeks of induction, I'd lost 0 (ZERO) lbs. Compare that to last fall when I did a low fat diet and lost 12.5 in the first 4 weeks. I'm still doing Atkins, but I had to resort to the fat fast to lose anything. We are all very very different!

Setting a weight loss goal for induction is not a good plan - you have no idea how your body will react. There really is ONE goal only for induction - that is GETTING THRU IT!!!! Do yourself a big favor and just set the goal of doing two weeks of Induction - whatever you lose then is a huge bonus!

A word of advise, if you're starting Monday, after celebrating today, do your best to start cutting back BIG time on the carbs Saturday and Sunday so the carb withdrawal won't be so tough starting Monday. Dont use the next three days to get in everything you aren't going to be allowed to eat once you start Induction, or you will be miserable.

I love Atkins - it's miserably slow for me, but I can eat this way comfortably and even more so, My DH is very very happy to be on it and that is the most important thing to me!

Good Luck, and if there's ever anything I can do to help, feel free to contact me!
