We are new to the board only posted once before, so if I do this wrong please bear with me. My DH and I made the mistake of weighing last Friday after only being on the Atkins plan for 4 days. We had each lost 7 lbs. We were so excited. Today 4 days after last weigh in, DH had only lost 1 lb and HORRORS I had gained a 1/2 lb. I know a 1/2 lb isn't much but when I am still eating the same as last week I had hoped I would at least remain the same. A friend told me this is normal to plateau and then I would start losing again. Has anyone else done this and if so how long before we start losing again?
Thanks for listening

:)

An Atkins plateau is when you go 4 WEEKS without losing pounds or inches. It's unrealistic to think you are going to lose a pound a day, or even a pound every couple of days. Some people do, and some people just poke along at a pound a week. You are going to stress yourself out if you set your weekly goals too high.

I have been doing Atkins for about 7 weeks now and I have been at the same weight for about the last 2 weeks now. I'm not discouraged because I can tell the difference in the way my clothes are fitting even tho the scale is staying the same weight.

Stick with it, all good things are worth the wait.

Good Luck to you!!

It doesn't sound like a plateau yet at this stage. Usually the initial weight you lose is excess water weight. Your body is adjusting to the new way of eating. Don't give up though. Everyone loses differently and the weight losses for the first couple of weeks vary greatly. I went through a slow down /stall a couple of weeks ago but things have started to pick up again. I started 6/6/03.

Keep in mind that everyone, but especially women, can have a weight fluctuation due to other causes than actual weight gain, such as water retention, etc. My weight loss program book says that a person's weight can fluctuate as much as 1 1/2 pounds in one day because of normal bodily functions. Any more than that in a one-day period is probably actual weight gain.

Don't give up yet...like everyone else mentioned, it's not only about your weight, but also your measurements and the way your clothes fit.

THAT'S why you only weigh once a week - the same day/time every week!!

(hang in there - don't give up!)

Don't be discouraged! Hang in there!!! You are doing a great job and you just need to give yourself some time. Try weighing in once a week! Also, check the Weekly Check In thread out for a while. You'll notice there are weeks when people on Atkins lose a bunch and then weeks when they don't lose at all or experience a gain, but then again, that happens on WW and other programs too. Just be patient! :)

I have been on Atkins since January and I have had a many plateaus along the way. I have lost 65 pounds so far, and I am still losing. For me, the weight comes off in bunches. I go for 2 -4 weeks without losing, then all of a sudden I will lose three pounds one day and two the next, and there I am 5 pounds lighter! It partly relates to TOM and water weight for me, but those are not the only factors. But I always KNOW that if I am taking in less calories than are going out I AM losing weight. Ad other point out, sometimes you see or feel the weight loss before it shows up on the scales, too.

Stay encouraged - you are doing the best thing possible for yourself!

Thanks everyone, I can see I overreacted and the weight will still come off. I guess I just got overly excited due to the 7 lbs coming off at once. My clothes are fitting alot looser even if the scales don't show it. By the way, I love all the recipies that are shared on this board I use those too. This is really a great support group.
Thanks again,
