Guess what?!?! We are going on a cruise...yahoo! My first time and all I keep hearing about is the food. I'm on Atkins and almost down 20 pounds in a month, would hate to interfere with that now as the cruise is at the end of March and hopefully I will be down 20 more or so by then... so my question is for anyone who has been on a cruise on Atkins, how was it?
Very tempting or? I've been so good so far, even when offered a carb item I decline, don't order it, etc.
Are there locarb/ or sugar free items, I think dessert would be my downfall. Can I call Carnival and ask them to see about it for me? I would think they would offer diabetic items, so maybe atkins friendly.
How terrible would sugar free cookies be? I know they have some carbs, but no sugar.
I am so excited, but worried about gaining too... and also I do want to enjoy the 24/7 pampering and foods... doesn't everyone?

Wow! Good for you. There is so much low carb food that I don't think you will have any problem. More meat than you will know what to do. Thick steaks. Lobster tails dripping in butter. Escargot. Veal....... On our last cruise our oldest daughter had the steak alternative almost every night. The only reason she went to the dining room is because she thought our waiter from Romania was a hottie. She is 19 and flirted the night away. Back to the food, glorious food. Noooo problem. You might, however, think about skipping the midnight chocolate buffet. That could be a very big pitfall. Hard to just take pictures and leave.
Enjoy your cruise.

Oh and did I mention that they have a terrific gym. I prefer deck walking though. I can go to the gym at home.

We cruised last year after being on Atkins for 3 months. Our downfall was not the cruise itself-it was the days just before when we were in Vancouver, and had no idea of menus at restaurants--we were eating out every meal, and it was nearly impossible to stay on Atkins. By the time we got onboard, we had decided not to limit ourselves. Looking back, I can honestly say there was no food on that trip that was worth the struggle I've had on getting back and being satisfied with Atkins. There are buffets available with lots of food, etc. There are low carbs available, and they usually offer a sugar free alternative for dessert. Good luck!

I am so grateful for this post! DH and I were invited on an 8 day cruise on Royal Caribbean with some of our friends for September. We have already decided if we go, we will definitely stay on plan with SBD. I was so concerned about all that food that will be available. Thanks to NCRedding for giving me some perspective on this. I would hate to come back and have regrets. Vacation should be about relaxing and looking back fondly on your memories and I want to be able to do just that. Thanks again!
