I've been lurking on this board for a few weeks. Sorry, but I was getting up the nerve to post. Your posts are an inspiration to me. But now I can't wait. I have to post.

It was my birthday today & I blew it, but I couldn't help it. I fully intended to be good but my 2 (twin) DDs baked me a cake at Grandma's & my DH came home with: oh let's just say "too many carbs". I didn't have the heart to disappoint them, they were so proud, so I ate as little as I thought I could get away with. The girls are too young to understand "dieting" - 7 yrs old) and DH has no concept of what this diet is about. But I know it was too much.

I've done so well until now, but now I feel terrible & I was wondering what the best way to handle this would be. I have been on Induction for 3 weeks and have lost 12 pounds. How much damage have I done today? Do I just continue on tomorrow as usual or what? Thanks for your help. Sorry for whining.

I'm not on Atkins now, but I have done it in the past. You may have knocked yourself out of ketosis for a short period of time, but if you drink lots of water and get RIGHT BACK ON Atkins, you shouldn't do too much damage.

How thoughtful of your DD's to make you a birthday cake. I would never say No to anything offered by a child. You had no choice. Don't worry about it, you'll be fine, just focus on what you are going to do next.

Happy Birthday!!!!!!

Dr. Atkins covered this in the book. He said to recognize that you slipped, and GET RIGHT BACK ON!!

It will only set you back 3-4 days (until you can re-start Ketosis).

Cheer up, we are only human!!

:)

How much damage have I done today?

You would have done a lot more damage had you not ate a little peice of the cake your girls poured thier hearts into. Do not feel you were weak. You were a wonderful mom.

Now go forward and forget about it.

Diane, I can't say anything else than anyone hasn't said here yet other than welcome to the WISH, tomorrow is another day, pick up where you left off and I'm sure you will laugh about this cake issue in 20 years with your kids.
You did the absolute right thing to do, not disappoint your children. Now let's get back on track and go on.
Let's keep loosing!

I forgot to say.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIANE!!!

Hi Daine! :)

Happy Birthday and Welcome to WISH! The first post is always the most difficult.

Believe me, I have been where you are and I know how devasting it can feel. But, you have to just let it go and keep on the program. I did and actually had a loss of one pound.

You can do this, we will do it together. :)

Thanks for the birthday wishes & the encouragement. I feel better now :D . DDs are in bed & DH is watching TV so I finally have some "quiet time" (he was bathing them when I posted this thread).

So I guess I'll get right back at it tomorrow. I was just scared I'd gain weight. Could I gain that fast? I'm actually having a hard time eating most days. I eat my meals and the next thing I know my stomach is growling but nothing appeals to me (and that has got me a bit worried, so today's worry is a change :) ). When you find your stomach growling, any suggestions for a good snack (other than a piece of meat ;) )

By the way, does anyone know how many carbs are in those "Mock Danishes" posted on this board?

Be sure to check out the Canadian Board, too! I hear that they are REAL friendly THERE, too! ;)

I ate more at my DD's bday a few weekend's ago and I realized very quickly that getting back on the wagon was the best thing I could do for myself....

I'm glad your feeling better and even if it happens again realize that you can begin again...and don't beat yourself up....

Happy Birthday ...

Happy Birthday Diane. I don't think you blew it at all. Today is your special day and home made cake is mandatory. Drink lots of water tomorrow and get right back in the weight loss groove.

I have to say that the cake was great (chocolate) but you should have seen the icing & decorations! My MIL said she took them to the grocery store & let them pick the decorations & boy did they pick them. Imagine 2 - 7 year olds, who are constantly trying to "out-do" eachother. Well I'm not an icing person to begin with (unless it's very light like whipped topping & not too sweet) so I normally scrape it off. Well they were so proud of their decorations & it was "Mommy - I did that one - eat it" & "Mommy - that's the one I did specially for you - eat it" and on & on. I think they would have been happiest if I could have just sat there eating all the special decorations they had put on. It was definitely cute & a very special moment DH got it all on video, so as you said, someday I'll look back on it & laugh. But right now I feel so full and almost sick ;) . Thanks for listening.

I wanted to welcome you and wish you a happy birthday. And i agree with the other posters you did what you should have. You ate what your girls made for you and dh offered you on your special day but you did'nt get totally out of control. That's wonderful. Happy, Happy Birthday and welcome to wish.

DO not worry...I sched cheats like that...I did it on my birthday, my gradnmothers 100th birthday, and my twins birthdays. No way should you disappoint them...I doubt that one peice of cake wll set you back anything that you lost, just go right back on your diet and keep trudging on. You have to forgive yourself those little indulges everyonce in a while and go on..The thing here is to go on. Put it behind you and continue, not just repeating it over and over.
You can do it.....do not worry, and good luck!

Your DDs sound so sweet!.. I have 2 DDs myself and I could totally relate to your daughters trying to outdo each other. Mine did that with the Christmas present they bought for me. :D

I agree that you did the right thing. Don't beat yourself up over it. Getting back on the program is all you can do now. If it happens again, you should do the same thing.

Yeah, what they all said!

You can do this! I hope your post has set you free from lurkerdom and that you will become a regular part of our community from now on!!! :) It's much easier to send you support and encouragement that way! ;)

Hang in there. You CAN do this!!! You've done great so far - just consider it a little bump in the road. We're all here for you!!!!

Welcome to the DIS and WISH, Diane. I'm really glad you decided to join us. Sorry you are feeling bad about eating that cake on your birthday.

I hope you didn't allow the fact that you ate cake and other off plan foods ruin your celebration. I hope you enjoyed your birthday and had some fun.

One of the neat things about WISH is that we don't worry about anything that happened before right now. Isn't that great? You can't change the past so no sense beating yourself up about it.

So, you just get back on plan, get yourself back into ketosis and keep on keepin on. We will help you :)

I sure hope you are going to be part of my support group now. Are you taking the WISH challenge?

Katholyn
