I haven't gotten Dr. Atkin's book yet. I promise I will soon, and stop mooching off your knowledge. But for now, I'm in a panic!!!

I ate out last night. I resisted the pizza and cake. I had butter and garlic wings and a chefs salad. I don't normally eat salad and I'm trying to find a dressing I like. I tried French last night. I used about 1 tsp. and I liked it. But I didn't know how many carbs are in it. Today I checked my refrigerator. We didn't have french, but we did have Catalina. It had 7 g of sugar per serving!!! Is this normal for French dressing?? I'm so worried that I have completely thrown myself off the induction train. Help!! I did eat very little. Maybe 1/4 of a serving, but I'm still worried.

Next problem....I was going to have Italian sausage for supper tonight. I checked the label and it has 3 g of carb, 1g of which is sugar. I was hoping to have 2 serving (6 g of carbs, 2 g of sugar) Can I do this, or is all sugar forbidden???

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try to stick to a Ranch or Blue Cheese dressing when eating out. Often Ceaser dressing is a good choice also. When in doubt --- ask for oil/vinegar and some garlic salt to add with it for some kick.

I would look for a sausage lower in sugar next time. The Leidy's sausage I had this week was 1g of carb --- so there are lower carb ones out there.
:D

I read somewhere on the Atkinscenter site that you should try to avoid French dressing because of the sugar. I honestly don't think that 1 tsp is going to be a big deal, though. As for the sausage, I would assume that as long as you count the carbs, it should be fine. You need the fat from it.

Atkins people, correct me if I'm wrong here.;)

Joanne is correct, as long as you count the carbs, the source is irrelevant.

I used to eat French dressing all the time, but I have switched to either vinegar & oli, or Bleu Cheese now.

:)

My understanding is that during Induction, you should be eating less than 20 grams of carbs per day. Most of those carbs should be coming from the salad/allowable vegetables. I don't think 1 tsp of dressing on one day will make a difference either, but for the future, look for dressings with 0 carbs. Oil and vinegar is usually safe. I use olive oil and red wine vinegar at home.

The sausage should be OK, too, but count the carbs and be sure to stay below 20 for the day. I try to avoid packaged meats that include carbs or sodium nitrate. It's better to get your carbs from unprocessed food like salad greens and vegetables. The carbs in processed meats are usually "junk" carbs/fillers with no nutritive value.

Have you bought/thought about buying Ketostix? Those test strips will let you know if you are in ketosis. As long as the strips show any color at all, you will be in ketosis/losing weight. I've found them to be helpful in that they relieve any anxiety I may feel if I think I have eaten something wrong.

Good luck!

I use Ranch with bacon dressing on my salad, it is delish! :) I agree though, I wouldn't worry about the French, that is what I used at first, but then switched over to Ranch! :)
