Anyone out there been able to stick to the Atkins/lo carb lifestyle while in the world? DH and I have both been on the plan for almost 2 years now with great results. I have lost 53 pounds and he has lost 95. We were both well within our BMI percentages. Well, went off for ~8 weeks and went totally hog wild :earseek: :earseek: Needless to say I'm now carrying 17 extra pounds and he ~25. We have a quick trip coming up in two weeks and have made PS's for CApe May, Crystal Palace, Le Cellier, Sci Fi and 50's Primetime. Suggestions from anyone on diet ideas?

My only suggestion is to control your portions. I have been told that Americans, as a whole, eat oversized portions for every meal and that our restaurants serve us too much food. If you've ever seen the chicken fried steak meal at Applebee's, then you'll agree.

What I do at WDW is just remember how large my portions are at home and stick with that. Usually, at counter restaurants, I order from the kid's menu. That's plenty of food. Maybe the two of you can split a sit-down meal. I've never had problems doing this. You'll STILL get plenty of food.

I think that I gained weight, initially, because I was always told to "clean my plate" when there was too much food on it. Then eating what I was given became a habit. Now, when I go out to eat, if the portion looks to big I just ask for a box and put half of it away to take home. Then I eat what's left on the plate. While I don't recommend that at WDW, maybe each having a salad or fruit and then splitting an entree will work for you.

Also, drink plenty of water...even more than usual. That way if you eat too much of something that you shouldn't...well, you understand the rest...

If you've been on low carb for 2 years then you know what you can and can't eat. I did it last year at disney. It is not that difficult. I mostly ate at fast food or buffet places. At fast food places order only what you can eat, if you don't get the fries they won't charge you for them. At AK I went to Flame Tree and only ordered ribs, nothing else, saved a little money too.
There are also sugar free desserts for a little treat. In Epcot you can find sugar free cheesecake and chocolate mousse, really good.
I'm on my way back today and plan to stick to the diet again .
:jumping4:

I'm going down in 3 weeks and it will be my first time since starting Atkins. Where does one find a sugar-free cheesecake in Epcot??!! I've heard the chocolate mousse is in Norway, but I MUST find this sugar-free cheesecake. :earseek:

Thanks. In the past we just went off of it for the time that we were there, usually not too bad for us weight wise. But with this trip coming on top of our holiday "feasting" we just plan to try to eat halfway sensibly. My biggest fear is Cape May, those mini desserts just call my DH's name ;) He's the sweet freak, for me it's pasta, potatoes and portions :)

DH and I were doing it last year during one of our trips (and should go back on - OMG!!!!).

Anyway - there is plenty to choose from, but they did not have Splenda packets for your tea or coffee. So if that's important to you, bring some from home.

gotta get the turkey legs if you are doing atkins yummy we can eat these all day!!

Just about every place we ate last week at Disney had Splenda packets. It was nice to see the yellow, lol.
