I am hoping that someone might be able to help me. I have a 2 year old that is very sick. At what tempurature do children start having problems. Right now her temp is 105.1 after tylenol, she is has also been vomiting. so I have given her tylenol, a warm bath.

I called her doctors and talked to a nurse. She told me that there wasnt much more i could do.

I dont know if I should bring her to the hospital or not. The doctors are not in due to the major snow we had last night.

thank you
meggan

Oh Meggan, if it were me, I would be on my way to the hospital. Maybe see if the Tylenol has any affect, and also try piggy backing some Motrin/Advil on top of it in a couple of hours.

That temp seems high to me.

I dont have much good advice for you, since my kids have never been that high, but I think if they were up to that, I would probably go to a hospital.
I cant believe doctors arent in today!!!! Yes, we got a lot of snow, but the roads are decent. My DH went to work, even my mother went to work and she doesnt drive in snow(and her job isnt a matter of life and death). Doctors of all people should have made an effort to get in to work. Thats awful!
Good luck and keep us updated on how she is doing.

That temperature is too high for my liking. I'd play it on the safe side and take her in, not only is her temperature high but she may dehydrate if she can't keep anything down.

Anything over 102, I take them to the dr, asap. I think dr's say at that age, anything over 103. But that's a temp BEFORE tylenol. If the dr's office isn't open, I'd take her to the ER. I hope her temp goes down soon.

My pediatritian told me they do not worry as much about a high fever as how fast the fever rises. The temp going up or down rapidly is what causes seizures. I would call the ER if it were me and they should be able to tell you if you should bring her in. With her being only two they may want you to bring her in. Make sure she is getting plenty of fluids.

I sure hope she gets to feeling better soon.

My DS 14 had some high fever the past few evenings. We alternated tylenol and ibuprophen every two hours while the fever was high --- paired with a cool bath.

For a younger child (they can often handle the fever better) but I would still opt for the ER right now.

I'm with all the others - go to the ER.... I can't hurt any

I also would be heading to the ER. To me, that's way to high of a fever. I don't understand the position a lot of doctors take these days with fevers. They don't seem to be concerned when they are so high and that just doesn't sit well with me. I'd error on the side of caution.

For our kids, any fever or 102 does not respond to tylenol. I need to do the cocktail as it's called around here. Tylenol and then 3 hours later a dose of Motrin (or the other way around). They are different medication and I know my kids need the motrin in order to bring the fever down.

Good luck and I hope she's better soon.

It's been 3 hours since this was posted does anyone have an update?

I'll tell you what my pediatrician said when we called him about a high fever after hours...." a fever of any degree combined with vomiting warrants a trip to the ER" Red Flags there if you combine the two, you're begging for dehydration.

Anyway, I'm betting that the fever has come down by now or they are at the ER.

Hope everybody is feeling better soon!

thank you everyone so much for the info. I sent my husbad out for motrin so i have been alternating, she is now up and walking around, her sister is reading her a story right now. I am hoping that this helps.

I do think that if it does not stay down I will bring her into the hospital right away.

I have not figured it out why yet, but ever since she was born she has always had really high fevers.

My kids have always gotten high fevers and my pediatrician told me to alternate tylenol with children's advil or children's motrin every four hours along with tepid baths.
Regular tylenol works for my kids only for low grade fevers but they almost never get low grade temps.

I hope the fever goes away with the meds and your daughter is feeling better soon. Let us know what happens.

I am so glad that the meds are working. Please keep us posted.

well as of this morning she has just a low grade fever , she is up and about but still a little droopy.

thank you everyone for all the help. I am so glad that i can come to the dis and so many people are here to help.

Good to hear, Meggan, glad she is feeling better. The little ones can sure scare us at times. {Hugs}

I am glad she is feeling better. However, my son's temp usually would be lower in the morning and increase as the day goes on. Be sure to keep an eye on her temp. I am sure you will, though :)
