At what age....

My daughter fell out of it at about 8, though the high school crowd is really back into it again. She loved meeting the character on our last trip at 15.

My dd was 9 on our trip in October and was not interested in any characters for the first half of our trip. Then she realized her custom made autogragh book was mostly empty. The second half of our trip was all about characters. This was the first trip that dd12 would not pose with most characters.

DS 12 especially enjoyed Minnie, Daisy, Monsters U, and Wreck It Ralph M&G's last week.

DS 16 loves Jasmine , and the main characters including Chip and Dale. DD 12 loves almost everyone and still loves the main princesses. She's pretty crazy about Belle, though. And of course DH digs Jasmine and Ariel!

did your child stop being interested in the princesses and other characters?

We just got back from our first trip (Feb 1-8) with my 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter. Our plan was to go back in 2 years. From talking to others, they have said that their kids were no longer into princesses and other characters at that age. If that is the case, we may go back sooner.

Just wondering what the average age is when they are no longer interested. If it makes a difference, when we were planning to go again, my son would be an almost 8 year old and my daughter would be an almost 6 year old.

My kids are pretty big on the fab 5 none of my 3 girls were realy interested in the princesses. We seldome go see the characters when we go anymore for us it is just the experiance of being at Disney. We do the Fab 5 at Chef Mickeys.

DS was about 5 or 6 when he decided that the characters were just people dressed up. He still enjoyed seeing them in shows or parades but quickly lost interest in meeting them.

My daughter is 9 and has been going to Disney since she was 2. She still loves meeting characters, getting autographs, and wearing princess gowns around the park. We spend as much time meeting characters as we do riding rides....which is fine with me! We also do mostly character meals with at least one princess meal! I am thrilled----it seems like kids grow up too fast these days so I appreciate her interest in what I see as age appropriate things!

We leave in three days and my dgd loves the princesses and she is 8 almost 9. She wants to meet them at resturaunts and not stand I. Lines which is fine for us. I will say that last year when she turned 7 was a real change though, but not out of love with princesses but more into reality and not fantasy. Over the years she owned every costume there was, and mom would not allow makeup so. Last year I decided she could go BBB and mom agreed. But she stated she did not want the package and dress there, she wanted to go down to the Mexican shops here and pick out her own dress. Which she did for $40, it had a petty coat and sparkles and ruffles and all. Looked like a pink Cinderella. When her hair was done she said mom does it better. And when everyone said and what princess are you she would proudly answer princess Aaliyah. Reality instead of fantasy she is who she is, but she is still a princess to us. This year we did the same thing went down to the Mexican shop and picked out a dress, but this year she refused any of the colors that the princesses wear, we noticed it right way, no pink, blue, light green, yellow. She picked out a puffy dress, with sparkles and ruffles, ($25) in a green that we hated, when asked if she really wanted that dress, she said, yes now no one will mistake me for one of disneys princesses, because if am princess Aaliyah.

This is a personal thing I guess. My daughters are 15 and 21 and they still love to meet EVERY character. (Me too). My 15 yo still gets an autograph book and the 21 yo would, but she has a 2 yo now so she takes her up.

We took our kids at 3 and 5 and then again at 5 and 7. My older child still loved all the characters. I'm a little nervous about this year, being 7 and 9 and it being their third time... But we also have a brand new baby so we get to start all over!

We found that the interest in characters sort of evolved as our daughters aged.

Around age 10, one daughter was very nervous about some of the fur ones and avoided a few altogether. The next time we visited, she loved them all.

At about age 15 another decided she wanted to meet and take photos with Princes. No princesses, JUST a prince and herself. My 19 year old decided to do the same. They were so giddy and goofy. And afterward, the 15 year old said "I've never been so nervous in my whole life! I'm shaking!" She was bright red and grinning, ear to ear.

Sometimes they would want photos with specific characters for Facebook (back when they used it).

One year, one of them was texting her red-haired boyfriend, asking him if he would mind if she hung out with a really cute red-haired guy she met. He was not pleased...for about 2 minutes. Then he received a photo of her with the new guy. It was Tigger.

As teens, they all enjoyed posing with princesses and demonstrating "princess hands." And actually that's a great example of how some characters adapt the meet and greets to match the ages of the visitors.

It's going to all depend on the kids and how they feel about the parks and why and how they enjoy visiting.

I'll be 23 on my next trip and I can say without a doubt that I still love meeting characters. I waited in line for 40 minutes on my last trip to meet Rapunzel!

We don't do autograph books, just pictures. My DS8 has never been horribly interested in the characters and we go twice a year typically. He'll wait if the line is short for a quick picture and he enjoys the character meals well enough, but if given the choice he usually would rather do something else. He does enjoy seeing them in shows and parades though.

Now with DS1, we will probably do more character M&G until he is old enough to express his opinion on it. Right now he loves them, but obviously he doesn't really know whats going on so we only take him when the lines are shorter.

I guess it depends on what you mean by interested in. My kids have always liked the characters but were never interested in standing in line and getting autographs (to our relief). At 7, my DD has figured out they are people in costumes but she has been several times. Her best friend, also 7, is going for the first time and is excited about meeting princesses.

My daughter is 7 and while she's not really all that into the pricesses, she loves meeting characters, especially ones that are funny. I think that's why she's not big into the princesses...generally, they're just not that funny bunch of people. With the exception of Ariel...she loves Ariel.

My 4 year old is a total fanboy for all princesses. It's pretty funny. He's into the other characters as well, but when it comes to princesses, he turns on the charm.

I think it really depends on your child. DD was very interested in the princesses at 6, but by 7 she was done. She is now 12 and has not had any interest in the characters since about 8 or so. She's all about the rides, parades, and fireworks now.

DD is 13 and still loves meeting as many characters as she can. Luckily, she's not quite die-hard enough to wait 4-5 hours for the Frozen girls, but she definitely still goes out of her way to meet lots.

My cousin was just telling her yesterday "Oh, you'll be growing out of Disney soon now that you are a teenager". DD looked at her like she had lost her mind. That's my girl!
