DS and I have been away numerous times where I just hold on to the keys. Yes, it is a big deal for him to open the door so I just hand him the key once we get to the door.
At what age did you let your kids hang onto their own KTTW card? Is it even necessary? He will be charging to our KTTW card, not his.

My son is nine, and he just can't manage to hang on to stuff like that. I would rather hold on to it than risk him losing.

I was under the impression that if your kids were in the lab(not the club) that they HAD TO have their KTTW card with them. Was I mistaken? Please enlighten me!

this past January, at least for the nine year old group...It is possible that it has changed. Also, he did not have sign out priveleges - in other words, we had to sign him out each time.

We let all four of or kids carry their KTTW cards.
he 13 yr old was always off somewhere and the 11 yr old could sign himself in and out of the Lab. The two 9 yr olds didn't have sign out priveleges so they did not need them for the Lab but would always be going back and forth to the room for one thing or another when they were with us.

You can buy lanyards that go around your neck and are a great way for kids (and adults) to carry around the KTTW. We also stopped the kids charging priveleges after we saw how much the two older ones were spending at Quartermasters.

Also it is not a big deal if they lose their KTTW card. You can just go to Guest Services for a ew one. Takes about 2 minutes and your room # is notprinted on the card, so it is very secure.

I don't think either of our kids carried their KTTW cards to the clubs. It didn't seem necessary (wrist bands were the thing). As long as charging is removed from the card, I would let them do whatever they want...not really a big deal. My son carried his a few times but didn't care much. My daughter didn't really either.

If I re-call correctly, the 10-12 year old need the card to check into the club. They are also allowed to check themselves out if permission is given by the parents.

The younger ones have wrist bands and my DS did not like it. It got uncomfortable for him.

I just purchased a set of 6 swivel clips at Michaels Craft Store that were on sale for $2.00. I intend to take a one hole punch with me to put a hole in the edge of the key card (opposite the end that goes into the magnetic lock) I will attach the swivel clip to the key card, then the kids can clip it onto their belt, shirt or whatever they are wearing. This way it will be accessible and they will not lay it down and forget it anywhere.

Actually, it was a pain in the neck when my son dropped his card down the elevator shaft. I got him a new one but, for some reason, they reset the lock on our door, so my card wouldn't work so I had to back to Guest Services (with a bag of clean laundry in hand) and get five new cards, and then the nice Disney guy escorted me back to our room to make sure that the carda finally worked. (And I ended up being late for the Art of Entertaining talk and had to sit in the back.) It was a major stress headache. Everyone in my family was in different parts of the ship and I had the only room cards that would work. I was afraid that they would try to use their old card, and they would end up at Guest services, trying to figure out why their cards wouldn't work... Needless to say, my son didn't have his card for the rest of the week.
