At what age did your kids start talking to their friends on the phone?

My girls are in First Grade, and within the last two weeks, they have been calling and receiving calls from their classmates. It hasn't been disruptive to our household, but these kids really have nothing to say to one another - they just giggle a lot until I tell them it is time to get off the phone.

I figure it is a good opportunity to teach them how to use the phone - how to politely ask for someone, how to answer, etc. but do you think other parents are annoyed?

Wow, lol, thats young but cute. My son and his friends are teenagers but they don't talk on the phone they text.......CONSTANTLY, lol!

My dd 6 who is also in the first grade came home from school with a girls number. I did not let her call cause I am not sure if this mother will allow it. I have no problem with her being on the phone.

I will send my girls' number to your daughter and our kids can talk! :goodvibes

yeah, 1st grade sounds about right for my DD8, my son however has phone-phobia, can't stand to talk on the phone!

I remember in 1st or 2nd grade when I started calling people. It was fun but then it got boring because the person i called lived almost next door to me lol. now that I am in high school I hardly use the phone.. i have only talked to friends maybe an five hours since september which is not alot compared to other people text messages and IM are now the rage :D

Dd called here and there in 1st & 2nd grade, usually to ask for someone to cover over or the such, but now she is in 5th grade and instant messaging is the thing they do.

At least it doesn't clog the phone line.....

I think it's cute that your dd has other little girlfriends calling and chatting(or just giggling). I wish that was my only problem! My ds is in 2nd grade, and he IS a cute little boy, and very funny and polite, and I have little girls calling my house to talk to him! One Sat morning our phone rang like 5 times, I didn't answer because I didn't recognize the caller ID. Well, later that day a school function these 2 little girls came up to him and said "Hi Jacob(not his real name), we tried pranking you on the phone this morning" Batting their little eyes and smiling at him. Oh brother am I in trouble! I also have a daughter and she WILL NOT be calling little boys on the phone!

I don't think I was that young. MY DD8 lives on the phone, it constantly rings. They go off and whisper, and THIS I don't like..

Pretty soon she will need her own line:eek:

Sure she would love that. In a couple of years we will not bee able to get them off the phone. If my girls are anything like me, I am always on the phone.

Makdyn, I wonder who you are talking too all the time:lmao: (Just kidding, that would be me, makdyn is my best friend, actually we just hung up with each other about 2 minutes ago) And pretty soon our dd's will be talking on the phone together too.
Anyway, my dd7 doesnt' really talk on the phone yet, she has a friend's number from school but doesn't use it yet.

My son was in kindergarten when the phone calls started. He's in first grade now and he has one friend he talks to on the phone after school while playing on the computer or Nintendo. They share gaming tips!

:rotfl: Funny you should ask this, my 2nd grader (just turned 8) has just started! She takes my phone list and calls her friends all the time. She just goes down the list to see who's home. They call her. It's to cute! She even knows how to use my cell.

My 7 year old is on the phone ALL THE TIME! Some nights its over 2 hours! And now there are boys that call here for her too. They usually just talk about school and the computer and they go on webkinz and since they can't really type to each other on tehre thye have to talk on the phone while they do it...can't wait for that webkinz chat clubhouse to open, then they can just type to each other!
