I was around 4th or 5th grade i was the first to do so. My mom didn't actually give me permission to but one day I saw my sister's razor while in the shower and went for it. Did it several times before I cut myself pretty bad and my parents found out (after screaming in the shower and the whole family running in to find out what happened-what can I say I was kind of a dramatic kid). I don't remember getting in trouble though, my family knew I was always in a hurry to grow up. I asked for a bra for my 7 birthday (and got one!)
Maybe you can teach her to use nair or some kind of cream or something if using a razor is a bit intimidating.

Dd is 11. Bought her a razor last year. She has blonde hair, doesn't shave her legs very often, yet, but I wanted her to have it. We did a quick discussion abt shaving like a previous poster said.

I did happen to notice armpit hair and told her she should shave it. She doesn't wear sleeveless shirts often and prefers to be very modest so I don't know what her pits are like today lol.

My daughter was in 3rd or 4th grade ( around 8 or9). She was embarrassed by her hairy legs since she had to wear a skirt as part of her school uniform.

Girls have enough pressure on them. This was an easy fix. I had more important things to worry about than if it was too early to shave.

I think my mom made me wait until jr high

I started in middle school around 12 I think. My parents made me use an electric at first but I had been pretend shaving with the cap to my big sister's razor since I was little. She would put shaving cream on my legs, teach me to rub it in and how to use the cap in long motions to shave. I remember doing this as far back as age 4 or 5. So when it came time for me to use a real razor, I knew how and didn't need any help. I was worried about nicks at first so the electric was nice. I also didn't have horribly hairy legs in the first place so the electric was efficient.

Now that I'm a stay at home mom I'm a shave to the knee unless its date night or I'm wearing shorts kind of girl. And in the winter time, shaving my legs is how my hubby knows I'm in the mood. Lol! I loathe shaving but have tried waxing and am a wimp.

My daughter was 9, she has VERY dark hair and her legs were pretty bad so I decided to shave them for her. At 11 she is still nervous so I do it for her, usually we only need to do it a few times a year. Also I have had to use hair remover on her upper lip since she was 8 since she gets really dark here there as well.

I was 11. I remember getting teased mercilessly while standing in line to go into school. I went home and told my mom I was gonna shave. She went out and got me a razor and showed me how. As soon as it starts getting noticeable you should talk to her about it.

Before 11, she's a swimmer. By about 12 she was shaving regularly and her hair is very light.

DD started with a cheapo electric razor, then moved to Venus Breeze when that died (after about a year).

My daughter started at 11. She probably didn't have to - she's very, very blonde and while she did have hair to shave it wasn't visible unless you're within a few feet and looking for it. But all her friends shave their legs and she was feeling self-conscious about her blonde, almost invisible fuzz so she started shaving it off.

I'm 18 and really can't remember when I started. Maybe I was 10? It was never a big deal, I never even talked to my mom about it. I saw a razor in the shower and went for it :rotfl: .

I just say let her start whenever she feels the desire to. Throw the offer out there that if she ever wants you to show her how one day, you will, and then I'd leave it at that.

Haha. Me too. I was shaving my legs for quite a while before my mom noticed. I was in 5th grade.

i started shaving my legs when i started middle school, with the whole changing for gym thing. I was 12 then

I talked to her about it. She said none of her friends are shaving yet. I said that we're going to need to talk about it soon...I think the underarm hair is going to be the telltale sign. She turns 11 next weekend. I am SO not ready for this puberty thing....with me starting to get peri-menopausal and her hitting puberty, this is going to be a FUN hous.:dance3:

6th grade sounds about right, maybe a little sooner for the underarms. I'm blonde so I could get away with the legs a little longer than some of my Italian and Greek friends. They started much younger. If you think it's time, talk to her about it! As much as we women hate shaving, sometimes girls her age get excited about it because it makes them feel grown up. Plus there are a lot of cute colored razors you can get her to try to make it a little more fun (there's not much fun about shaving, so a cute razor and a fun smelling shaving cream are about all you can do). I've found I've cut myself a lot less with Schick Quattro for women and Skintimate shave gel. Good luck!

Every girl is different, my dd13 will start high school in September and still hasn't shaved. I've checked her legs a few times without her noticed and her hair isn't that noticeable even though it's dark. I'll let her take the lead on when she wants to start. I was about 12 when I started.

I'm trying to remember when she started but I want to say 5th grade or so - approx. 10-11 years of age. She goes in spurts, sometimes she shaves and other times she doesn't. I didn't care either way. I bought her a Venus and showed her how to do it then turned her loose.

If she doesn't want to why are you pushing it? My advice would be to tell her whenever she's ready you're there to help her, give advice, etc. Don't make these things bigger than they are. Some girls are very self conscience and others are really comfortable in their own skin. Let your daughter take the lead and there will be a whole lot less drama.

Stone age I was 11 and didn't have hardly any hair on my legs. My friend with olive skin had lots of dark long hair on her legs. Her mom made her wait till she was 13. I felt so sorry for her and why?? When my grand daughter wants to shave or needs to shave my daughter should let her SMH. All in all it's just grooming!

For those of you who have tackled hair on your DD's upper lip, what method of hair removal do you use? I am not going to use a razor but would the hair removal creme work? A few of the girls have made fun of DD9 about her supposed moustache. Sadly she takes after me with dark hair.

The best thing is to take her and let some one wax it. Yes it will hurt but will last a longer time and not blister up like lots of depillatory(sp) creams.:teacher:
